Hey, I have no problem with regurgitation - I just (personally) hope WotC completes the untouched areas first before using their limited resources to re-hash what's been done many (many) times before. And it certainly looks like they got their act together this year.
I think a good idea for WOTC would be to do one "core" region (e.g. Dalelands, Waterdeep, Silver Marches, Western Heartlands) and one more oddball region (e.g. Chult, Shining South, Serpent Kingdoms, Underdark) per year. That way we get both a 3e-style look at the heart of the Realms as well as an expansion of the areas that haven't been covered.

Of course, the Western Heartlands fall under both categories.

It's a pretty weird thought that since AD&D had some books detailing those regions, that D&D3E doesn't need to do so. How many players will actually have that stuff? 1%? 5%?

It isn't just for pre-third edition material. Lot's of products from previous editions reference older books that are long since out of print. It's annoying, but it can't be helped...the most vocal component of any group is the component that pissed off over something. If they did reprint information from out of print books, all we'd hear are the people who did have those old books, bemoaning that they're buying old material again.

I voted for the Lands of Intrigue. While a supplement on the Heartlands or some other really quintessential area would be useful, the core FR books already describe the type of people and cultures that exist in the Heartlands (and even the North). Those areas are similar enough to the core D&D flavor that an extra book is mostly going to be crunch and maps. Useful stuff, but about as flavorful as caulk (IMO).

I have a particular fancy for the Calimshan area, which made me pick it over the other exotic locations. The exotic places are further from the 'mainstreak FR' style, and in addition to the crunch and world-building info, the flavor of a different culture can come through. Looking at the Unapproachable East and Underdark books, they do a pretty good job of describing places that don't function in an intuitive way (to Americans, anyways). I like to expand my horizons; my second and third picks would have been Beyond Faerun or the Cosmology of Toril, if that gives you an idea.

Personally I just want to set up an Underdark/Overland kingdom for ole Orcus. He deserves it more than Kiaranselee.

Sadly, with the current climate in the US I find it extremely unlikely that they'll release Al-Qadim again. A generic Arabian Adventures is slightly more possible, but there's no way they'll release Al-Qadim without at least a name change.

I suspect you would be right, but the name change wouldn't bother me. And like the itnerview with the complete divine authors said, the mainstream doesn't care about DnD books any more.

So an Arabian Adventures book with Al-Quadim as the standard setting (like the way OA was done) would be a-ok.

The North would be my first choice and then the Heartlands. I run almost all of my FR adventures in the North so I can never have enough info on it. But it would be nice to know more about the Heartlands as there isn't much on it now.

I'd be happy with that - a fair compromise indeed that would satisfy both the new fans and the old timers. Really, all I care about is if I know that sometime the untouched areas will (finally) be detailed, I'm more than happy.

Western Heartlands is "oddball"? I'm not sure I agree with that. (But then again, when discussing the WH, when have I agreed with you? :D)

Sheesh, I'm almost getting as bad as Ranger REG and diaglo when it comes to advocacy (FR products in my case). Ah well, everyone needs a schtick. ;)
