Which psionic classes have which armor proficiencies? (I know they can all "manifest" in plate mail..I need to take a harder look at that)

Need to know for the house rules (I don't have complete psionic).

Ardent
Divine Mind
Erudite
Lurk
Psion
Psychic Warrior
Soulknife
Wilder

Thanks in advance,

Psions have no armor Prof's
Psy Warriors have all armors and all shields, Except Tower shields.
Soulknives have light armor and all shields, except tower shields.
Wilders have light armor, and all shields, except tower shields

I'm afraid I can't help with the rest.

I just realized how powerful a psion is that took their first level in fighter...

seems really overpowered to me. They're equivalent to a wizard, but can wear full-plate...

THoughts?

No need to take the level in Fighter--just don't take Energy Ray or Crystal Shard and ignore the nonproficiency penalty. I had a friend whose other GM was a jackass who kept killing him off and forcing him to come back one level lower or one level lower than the lowest character in the party, whichever was lower. Eventually, my friend was to make a level 5 character and about to enter the final encounter of the Temple of Elemental Evil. I helped him build "No-die-o the Gnome", a fully turtled full-plate and tower-shielding toting gnome who needed to roll a 20 to hit the backside of a barn. But he never died and helped out a bit by summoning flanking constructs, so I consider it a success.

Why bother with the fighter level?

As long as you stay away from the ranged touch spells like Energy Ray, the effects of non-proficiency are pretty minimal. Being non-proficient makes the penalty apply to attack rolls and strength and dexterity checks and str and dex based skill checks.

Open locks, ride, and use rope are the only skills where it makes a difference. And a psion is going to be average at best at Str and Dex checks.

Is that ovepowered compared to the other classes though? (Psion in full plate while wizard has none)

Remember that the focus is at the heart of the manifestors' limitations.

The really juicy and powerfull stuff ends up expending the focus.

True a single power doesn't, but applying any metapsionic feats does. And since using the feat expends it is argueable that you can't apply more than one at a time. {This is not specifically stated, but it can be inferred.}

Oh and a soulknife is not a manifestor. It has no powers. Levels in SK do not add to manifestor level.

It also depends on what type of psion you are playing.

I played an Egoist with a Greatsword and Psionic Weapon. She would wade in and often do 4D6 points of damage (and often not). She did not wear heavy armor (she used Inertial Armor), but if she would have, a level of Psychic Warrior, possibly with the Biofeedback power, would have been helpful. A combatant type psion such as this either needs a class level for the heavier armor, or she needs to not wear armor since the -4 nonproficiency penalty is too large when you consider that psions are already at 1/2 BAB.

I don't see how it's any more powerful than a Cleric wearing Full-Plate and still casting spells (And the Cleric gets proficiency too). Frankly, arcane spell failure is a mechanic of dubious utility, which seems to exist primarily for legacy reasons.
