On Illithids... What mind control? The only power they have that is equivalent to what you're talking about is Charm Monster, and that is not very effective for getting other people to do what you want, if it is any way detrimental to them.

Well, if you succesfully charm a creature, he sees you as a friend. If you want to be the elected and accepted leader, maybe you should be the friend of everyone.
If you want to give people some advice, it is easier if you are their friend.

Though I agree - if the Mind Flayer wants to eat your brain, all charming in the world won`t help him.

Bast is female. Cthulluh is a squid, not a cat. And the hoverkitty (or rather, jumping kitty) picture is famous for a stupid photoshopped joke, with two silly monsters chasing the kitty, and a non less silly caption.
