Hmm, it sounds like Races of Stone is the book to add to my collection, but I'm still not sure. My players really want to use these books, but I haven't allowed them in my campaign, up until now.

I'm worried about adding in stuff that doesn't fit my game world. I recently bought Dragon Magic, which is awesome, but it has already made reference to Races of the Dragon, which bugs me a little. Plus, one of my player is playing a dwarf, and it's eating him up that he can't use any of the material from Races of Stone.

Isn't Races of Stone the book with the feat that lets Dwarven Sorcerers use CON instead of CHA for their spellscasting stat? That seems quite imbalancing to me. Am I wrong?

I really like races of Eberron. But while I'm no Eberron DM, I love the new races from the setting, so that's no surprise.

I thought Races of Wilds had a very good feat section and a hidden gem with the Killoren race (which should have taken the place of raptoren's in the book, imho).

I thought Races of Stone was pretty useless when I had a friend lend it to me.

I've never read Races of Dragon, Destiny and Fearun, but I'm contemplating Dragon, since that seems to be some stuff that I personaly might find useful.

Races of Stone. Liked the new stuff for dwarves, but especially liked the Goliaths. They're the only new race introduced in the "Races" books that I immediately wanted to use in my campaign world.

I've only bothered to purchase Races of Eberron - none of the others appealed to me. I dislike most of the fluff; the warforged and shifter chapters are a little weak, and AFAIC, the changeling chapter doesn't exist, but the Kalashtar fluff and most of the crunch in the book is *fantastic*.

Yes.

It's a substitution level for Dwarf Sorcerer. A 9th level (or higher) Dwarf Sorcerer can add his Con modifier to his Cha score to determine bonus spells, but doesn't gain a new 4th level spell known.

Crazy unbalancing? I think not.

Cheers!

Races of Stone has some material that sucks, but it has some nice PrCs and feats. Also, goliaths are probably the best of the new races.

Races of the Wild has more lame material, and also deviates from the D&D standard world. Raptorans are horrible from a design standpoint. It includes no information on elven subraces. However, it has some salvage value in the form of PrCs and feat. I posted an unkind review of it on RPG.net.

Races of Destiny sucks hardcore. I posted an even more unkind review of it on RPG.net. Other than a couple of quirky PrCs and some handy feats, and states for things like half-ogres, it's almost pure unadulterated suckage, including an unneeded and wrong-headed rewrite of the mongrelfolk.

Races of Stone had the most stuff that I'd consider taking into my game.

The other books each had one or two things -- Races of Destiny's most excellent Chameleon class and Adaptive Learning feat, for example -- but beyond those few things, not much joy.

Just one penguin's opinion, -- N

The moment I read the whisper gnome I knew the PHB gnome would never get played again.
It's better for gnome rogues. It's inferior to regular gnomes for all other purposes. I have two gnomes IMC, and we have one regular gnome, one whisper gnome rogue.

It's the wrong comparison. Whisper Gnomes are balanced wrt Gnomes. They're overpowered compared to Halflings...

Cheers!
