Which Rogue talent to take first?

If he's playing an Arcane Trickerster and he reaches Magus 7 before epic levels, he's doing it wrong. :)

My point was instead of taking ANY future levels in Arcane Trickster, take Magus to better fit the specific needs the OP's fellow player seems to have. As it seemed to be mentioned the whole point of becoming an Arcane Trickster for this fellow was for the 'casting in armor' capability - which is well within the Magi's capability. Who needs arcane trickster at all if the trick you want is already built into a base class?

My understanding was he wanted AT the same reason everyone does: CL and SA advancement, and just wanted the casting in armor thing if at all possible as an added perk. If his primary goal was just to be a spellcaster in armor, he wouldn't be a rogue in the first place.

In my opinion...mage armor is cheap and decent, he should be shooting his dex into the stratosphere as he gains levels anyway (max dex limits of armor), and worse comes to worse, dealing with a 5% failure rate (padded) or 10% (mithral chain shirt) isn't the end of the world, just annoying.

Its possible that's what he meant.

The way I read it, was the guy is primarily a melee rogue and wanted the added capability of spell casting (as in Minor and Major Magic), but also wanted to cast spells while in armor. To me Magus fits that bill far better than AT. I didn't read it as AT being the primary goal with all its specific perks.

Maybe you saw something in the posts that differed than how I read it...
