I have attended Gencon for about 15 years now and every year until last year, I ran a Shadowrun adventure. (I like the game but didn't really have a chance to play it with my current gaming group.) Every year, the event sold out and had players standing around waiting to see if they could get in with a generic ticket.
This past year, I decided I was too far removed from the current version of Shadowrun being supported AND it was getting harder to run Shadowrun since I really only got to do it once (or at most, twice a year, when I twisted the collective arms of my group to playtest for me). Therefore, I switched to d20 Modern for last year's Gencon.
Apparently this was a BAD idea... I sold out one slot and had NO PLAYERS sign up for the remaining slots. Nada! Zero! Zilch!
So my question is: Do I go back to running a Shadowrun game, even though I run 2nd Edition (similar to running 2nd edition D&D now) or do I just call the modern stuff a bad idea and switch over to 3.5 D&D? Is d20 Modern really not very popular?
