American Thanksgiving.

Although had to celebrate it today. My sis who does all the cooking had other stuff going on on Thurs and I worked, then came home and watched my other team, the Cowboys beat up the Bucs. Then got groggy watching Forensic Files. Was gonna watch Shrek 2 but was ready to crash about that time. So I crashed.

I only celebrate the food portion of the festivity.

I lament the failed First Contact between the Colonists and Native Americans.
That's the cool thing about Canada's Thanksgiving, IMO, it doesn't have anything to do with Plymouth Rock.

Canada
In Canada, Thanksgiving is a three-day weekend (although some provinces choose to observe a four day weekend, Friday–Monday). While the actual Thanksgiving holiday is on a Monday, Canadians might eat their Thanksgiving meal on any day of that three day weekend. This often means celebrating a meal with one group of relatives on one day, and another meal with a different group of relatives on another day. Although in English Canada Thanksgiving is often celebrated with family, it is also often a time for weekend getaways for couples to observe the autumn leaves, spend one last weekend at the cottage or participate in various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and hunting. The holiday is not as significant a family occasion amongst French Canadians, however.

Yep, it's just a harvest celebration up here, nothing to do with Europeans coming to North America (thus the earlier date, we have mucho snow up here right now). We also had Rememberance Day (Veteren's Day in the US) off this month, and generally only get one stat holiday per month (aside from December with Christmas/Boxing Day, yeah, we get two days off for Christmas).

And aside from Christmas, it's probably the most "family" stat holiday we have, moreso even than the unfortunately named Family Day.

Family Day? You crazy Canadians.

I wish there was some way we could commercialize Thanksgiving more, actually. :)
