To be honest, I loved all of the conceptual spaces that the 4E warlock went to with its pacts (and the fact that there could yet be many more interesting pacts. Now if I could have gotten past more of the 4E mechanics... So yeah, I'd like to see a more modular type Warlock that retains all of the flavor of different pacts, but have it extend to more options. For instance something like the hexblade being able to more of a 'defender' per say than still just another striker.

"Which warlocks want we?" is perfect old-fashioned grammar. :)

The best warlocks were from the Fourth Edition Players' Handbook and the contemporaneous articles in the Dragon magazine. Of course they did need several later feats to make them stronger strikers, but the mechanics and fluff were spot on. I loved the pacts with evil powers: every magician should be assumed to part of that stuff. Then burn them at the stake. I also enjoyed the Warlock's curse and all his sneaky powers.

We have heard of warlocks in 5e, so what is your favourite warlock, and why? I'll say mine once I've got the poll up.

If ones boon is triggered by grammar mistakes my patron owes me a couple tons of boon;p
 

I think I agree with Khaalis. I like the flavor of the 4E warlocks - they are clearly a different entity than a standard wizard. I want rules that showcase that flavor.
 

None of the warlocks (or not in core, anyway; in Heroes of Shadow is fine) please?

You can use some variant of wizard or sorcerer for the simple blaster mage, and the swordmage, bladesinger, and duskblade were all better takes on a gish class than the hexblade for a standard campaign (where people who cut deals with demons and devils are the villains).
 

I voted "infrenal", "Dark(?)" and essentials infernal hexblade.

I do not use warlocks in my game world, but the very concept of a "pact" with some greater power to "give" you power in exchange for...something...at some point...while being a very valid fantasy archetype (from Faust on down), seems to demand a "dark/evil" power/outlook of desperation.

The idea that entities willing to say, "oh, ok, here's some power in exchange for something" are NOT "evil" or after some ulterior motive just doesn't mesh with me/my sensibilities.

Naturally, this is coming from someone who uses and likes 9=point alignment in their games...so I don't expect things will develop that way in game to allow for "shiny happy warlocks holding pacts" heroic characters.

Why would a LG GOD choose to heed the entreaty of/deal with a Drow?

Especially for something as limited and cockamamie as "mercy when they ask for it"?

Are you, the Drow, making yourself LG? Are you taking on what all of that means/entails? Will you distribute Pelor's power as Pelor wants/demands? If so, POOF, you're a cleric of Pelor. Congratulations!
