White-skinned Drow

Another reason for Drow to have black skin is the, shall we say, intercourse they've had with demons...

After all, where does their innate magic resistance come from? And their ability to levitate at will? And the Faerie Fire thing? It's not all due to the 'strange radiation found in the underdark.'

What I want to know is: what the heck is causing all this zany underdark radiation and why does it work on different creatures in such dissimilar ways?

Hmmm...

Pale evil elves...perhaps with a certain easily identifiable battle-standard...

"The Drow shall RISE again! We shall undo the injustices of the War of Grey-Elf Agression!"
;) ;) ;)

IMC, there are normal elves ("Elves"), relaxed hippie elves who smoke too much pipeweed ("High Elves") -- and evil subterranian elves who live on the planet Barsoom, their skin the color of dry bone, their "religion" based around the demon-princess Lolth, who was cursed by the gods into a hideous spider-form in a lost age, when her name was "Arachne".

The evil, bone-white elves are called "Thurn". They are mechanically identical to Drow.

Cracker drow...that's classic

ACE VENTURE THE ALBINO DROW:

"Ace: What does Eqincu Ocha mean?
Ouda: White devil.
Ace: Well, tell them I'm not.
Ouda: I only met you. How do I know?"
- Ace, Ouda

(sung over the squeal of twin electric lutes...)

"Sweet Home, Menzoberranzan!
The City draped in shadows deep!
Sweet Home, Menzoberranzan!
Your rising force will make them weep!"

I don't have Drow in my current game, but when I did, they were pale albinos - just a slight shade paler than gray elves, which gave some great opportunities for misidentification and mistrust...

In my last campaign the Drow were all albinos from generations of cave dwelling. It confused the PCs a bit until thye figured it out...

I could make all sorts of comments about the whole drow racism and/or Confederacy thing but, since I just came back after who knows how many years, I don't think I want to get banhammered *yet*. But I will say that a campaign where it turns out that the drow are the innocent and aggreived party would be interesting, to put it mildly...

On a safer topic, it would make more sense for them to be pale-skinned, yes. Albino, inbred, freakish, warped and distorted. But that would make them look a whole lot less sexy in the fetish wear.

Did I say safer topic? Silly me! :D

Yep. IMG The magic abilities are placed on a few elite dark elves with strong demonic bloodlines. A few top members are true half fiends, some unique like the Dreagaloth. The lowborn dark elves are just pallid elves with Darkvision and orc level light sensitivity, sometimes drugged to enhance their combat abilities.
