And the characters make OotS funny. The in-jokes are good, but the characters are gold.

I, for one, do hope it switches to 4E. The possibilities are endless.

To stay relevant to the greatest part of his audience I would say he'll switch. It might even get the comic back to basics b/c lately IMO its too thick in plot to the point it doesn't matter what edition is being talked about.

How about Haley getting all bent out of shape because her sneak attack doesn't do the same amount of damage? Or when they find out that she can sneak attack undead.

If he actually wants to change at the edition change, he'll have a hard time getting things to that point in 3 months when he's doing 1d3 strips/week.

The Snarl is a good plot device for that, but I think it might not be for another year or so. Or he might just do it. Who knows?

I think a switch would be funny. After all, the Uber-Lich is sitting under a hole in reality that probably leads to the creature that built the universe, it's not outside the realms of possibility that he could grab a strand and give it a bit of a tug...

I'm thinking that Elan will become a rogue with a few wizard levels. After all, he doesn't really use magic much. Further, we've yet to learn much of the paragon paths and the OoTS are all in the teen levels.

But I too am hoping for less plot and more humour.

Elan is the least of the worries when it comes to edition change.
