who are the Shadowrunners among us?

How difficult would it be to play Shadowrun using d20 Modern rules? I've never played it, but one member of my group wants to run a Shadowrun campaign. I've been thinking of advising him to use d20 Modern, as I think it will be easier for the rest of us to adapt.

I've heard a lot of the standard 'd20 just doesn't convey...' lines. But I've never really been convinced.

Not hard. There are actually some products out that are very Shadowrun like. For instance En POublishing has three Black Hammer PDFs that are all about guns for the near future, perfect for this type of game. THe biggest problem like all games is just coverting the martial over.

I think you can do a game similar in terms of setting easily enough. However, much of the draw of SR, imho, is in some of the details of the mechanics which don't easily translate. By the time you've house-ruled d20 to do the same things, your new bok of rules will be large enough, and have enough of a learning curve, that it would make more sense to just use SR to begin with.

Just wanted to take an informal EN World "role-call" of those that have played or are currently playing SR.

As a side note, is anyone going to be playing SR at GenCon? I'm hoping to.

I used to play Shadowrun a lot. Haven't played it in a few years now. Used to also admin on an online location for it (Shadowun Seattle Mux). Man that was a good many hours a day spent gaming.

Nope, Didn't buy Blackhand's then. There was a design-your-own-gun book for SR2/3 that I'm pretty sure I had in my possession for all of a week before I lent it to someone, never to see it again. So much so that apparently I've forgotten the title!

There was a Cyberpunk 2020 thing called
Blackhand's Street Weapons 2020

However the product you are thinking of called: Blackhand's Street Weapons 2057 was not an official published product, but a conversion that Gurth did of the Cyberpunk 2020 weapons for use under Shadowrun.

One of my favorite SR supplements was Beyond the Shadows, because it dealt with the primary weakness of SR: the fact the game is geared toward playing *only* 'runners.

By the by, do any of you know if anyone has ever tried to convert SR to the d20 system?

Right now I'm drafting rules for my Shadowrunish d20 game. I'm doing away with classes and rolling up attack bonuses and saves into skills. I also made many of the d20 Modern talants into feats. I'll be running a test adventure later today.

I'm probably one of the least qualified people to do a Shadowrun conversion, though--my only experience was thumbing through the rulebook and playing the SNES video game (very fun!).

At any rate, I plan on posting the rules onto Enworld at some point.

Actually your probably the best qualified. Those of us with an in depth understanding of SR would probably go insane trying to convert all the small stuff in a way that would keep it the same.

you'll just worry about the big picture, which may actually be convertable.

Actually I was referring to the Cannon Companion. It had firearm construction rules for SR3 along with a martial arts system. IIRC, the week I got it the SR3 game I was in broke up. Some of my friends got in a game that I couldn't get join due to work and I loaned one of them the book. Unfortunately I can't remember who and a few of them moved away....
