who are the Shadowrunners among us?

I ran 1st & 2nd Eds. and have played all three. Absolutley loved the system for a modern & fantasy blended world. Played all the various character types. Something that really surprised me was that - while I enjoyed all the characters I played - the unaugmented, skill-based human detective was the character I had the most fun with. Sure, when it came down to combat, he was disadvantaged, but nobody could hold a candle to him in the legwork phase. :p
 

I loves me some Shadowrun. Been playing since the 2nd edition (around 1992 or so). It's never been our "primary" game, but our group always seems to migrate back to SR when we get a little burned out on D&D.
 

I loved Shadowrun, but like many others here it seems, haven't played since maybe the early to mid 90's.

I would love to play, but our group doesn't get together often enough to support 2 games, so it's just D&D.
 

Played it maybe two-three times (it wasn't that GM's best; one PC nearly got killed by "wandering damage" while crossing town), and GMed it quite a bit more.

I love the setting & the metaphysics behind the magic, but some of the dice mechanics bugged the drek out of me. A target number of 6 was (IIRC) about twice as hard as a TN 6, yet a TN of 7 was no worse than a 6. And it didn't seem to scale up well, either.

But it was a fraggin' blast to play. Universal Brotherhood, baby.
 

Shadowrun 2ed

I love the setting, and I inflicted it upon my DnD group. It was a great game for crazy, over-the-top type of stuff to happen. We had loads of fun, but to this day none of us understand the combat resolution system.

Maybe I could try a d20 conversion ...

SR can be a vastly different game depending on the GM. There are a ton of rules for combat and firearms but it takes a good GM to construct runs that don't require any gunplay at all, or at least one that knows what to do if the players try to avoid fire fights. If you had to shoot something, you fragged up the run.

If I didn't have a huge bill sitting in front of me, I'd be buying a ton of the older material being put onto DriveThruRPG right now...

I've played SR for 10 years or so. My group plays D&D 75% of the time and SR 20% of the time (the other 5% is random stuff).

My last character, Caduceus, was a Wakyambi elf shaman from Africa who conjured a lot of spirits. Fun stuff.
