who are the Shadowrunners among us?

I love SR and been in love with it since it came out; a buddy saw the SR1 hardcover behind the counter of the FLGS and bought it before it could be shelved. When the rest of us saw it we went back and bought their entire shipment and ordered them to call us if other products hit the market.

I played SR1 from it's release until 1992 in one long-running campaign, played in another buddy's SR2 campaign at college from '92 to '94, various short lived campaigns until SR3 and been in a game run sporadically by my brother since then. (Haven't played since Thanksgiving though so the game's probably dead)

I've got virtually all the rule-related books with only a few holes. I *think* I bought Blackhand's firearms guide but loaned it to someone. Not sure anymore....

I'd love to get into an SR3 game at GenCon. Once the official event guide comes out we should start scheduling a few games.

I played SR in the 90s. I played street-sams, usually.

The mage Player in our group was quite the min/maxer (not meant as an insult), and his mage character was quite the powerhouse. There was some loop-hole in the rules about how many permanent spells you could have on yourself (no limit, really), and he had spells up to boost all his abilities, reflexes, etc. [Been ten years since I last played, so I don't remember the rules or loop-hole for this.] He was basically just as jacked up (or more so) with his magic as the other characters were with cyberware.

Imagine 3.0 bull's strength, fox's cunning, etc. all up, all maximized, all the time.

He had a ton of fetishes to soak up extra drain, and we joked about how anytime he threw a powerful spell, smoke would billow around him as the fetishes burned up.

We often discussed who would win in a duel between his mage and my orc street-sam (with his autocannon!). We agreed it basically would come down to who won initiative. And he had the edge in initiative what with his reflexes magically "wired" to the highest level, and mine only at medium.

He, more than once, dropped the BBEG in the first round by firing off his most powerful spell at full power, without taking any drain hurt. It was only when we were faced with multiple enemies that all of us in the party got to fight.

I loved playing that game.

Hoi, chummers! I played a whole mess of SR for a long time. Stopped playing regularly before the 3rd edition came out, though. Great setting, second greatest magic system in existance.

Ok, I'll bite. What's the first? :)

Looks like there's some chummer in the Boston sprawl. Oh job market, why did you forsake me that I had to move back to RI. :\

Maybe next gameday we should run an SR game!

Like I said up the thread, they are talking about games on Dumpshock. Seems there will be some pickup games as well. Dumpshock is a cool place - definitely a devoted following there.

The greatest magic system is, nigh paradoxically, also the worst - the one found in White Wolf's Mage: The Ascension. In the right hands, it is a wonder to behold. In the wrong hands, it's drek.

I've run SR at a previous Boston gameday, and it worked out reasonably well, I think. No reason it cannot be done again. It'll be a while before the next gameday, though, so don't hold your breath. :)

I've read several of the SR novels, and I've played it a couple of times (years ago, when it first came out) at conventions. I've always been intrigued by the concept and the setting. I even own a lot of SR supplements, which I used when my gaming group played Cyberpunk 2020. But I could never get anyone else in our group excited about playing SR. They all thought the concept was "too strange."

I played it for a couple years back around '92-93, and just picked up the latest edition. I don't expect I will have time to play or run one soon face-to-face, but if anyone starts up a PBP I'd love to be involved.

I played it a great deal up until 3.5 and Exalted completely took up my time.

I loved the setting and the characters, but as a GM I found I could only keep it going a little while before the system completely killed me.

Been waiting for something in d20 to come around to where it could emulate that experience, but nothing so far. It's time may have irrevecably passed for me.
