Who attends GenCon?

I go regularly, and I go primarily for the EN World Stealth Con.

It is--in nearly every way I can imagine--better than the Con it parasticially infects:)

Game quality, Personalities, Parties, Excursions...all well above the bar set by Gen Con proper.

I have been to four.
I love them and hope to go again.
Finances and babysitting are the biggest issues of going.
So maybe things will work out this year.

I've been to one: 2003, the first Indy year. I'd go every year if I could afford it! :)

I found a *ton* of old-school rulebooks, modules, etc. there...much of it in the auction (do they still run that?)...far more than I could afford, though I wanted it all. Never mind it's also semi-realistic to think you'll be able to turn around and get said old-school goodies signed by the author...

If I went again, I'd be interested in this "stealth-con"...in 2003 I'd never heard of ENWorld other than they gave out these awards and people at GenCon seemed to make a big deal about them. But now..... :)

I've been attending (or trying to) for the past few years. It's definitely something you should go to if you are able. I definitely planning on going next year, but what I'm going to do there is anyone's guess at this time. (Last year I filled in my slots with a variety of the Puffing Billy games, but since my only claim to secret gaming fame is the programming of the online game for Empire Builder for the Multi-Player Games Network, that's understandable.)

I want to go this year. I'm trying to talk my buddies/old gaming group in Florida to come up to Kentucky and make the trip with me.

I'm also considering (if I can't make GenCon) going to Origins.

I've gone every year since 1999 with one exception, when my wife was having surgery.

For me, it's a business trip as well as a pleasure jaunt. I have made more on contracts earned at gen Con than on going to the trip. Even so, it can be a pricey proposition. I always spend $100-200 I didn't expect to on things found at the Con (which generally has a few really good OOP sellers). I also often spend more than I expect on the things to do at Indy. It's also often the only chance I get to see friends from the Left Coast.

I haven't tried the En World hidden con, but perhaps I should.

While the cost can be very high, I have yet to talk to anyone who regrets going, and I've introduced a half-dozen or so people to the con. I still consider it a must-do for adventure gamers, at least once in a lifetime.

I've gone every year 1994-98 and 2002-2006, and plan to go again this year.

Going to Gen Con has changed a lot for me over the years. In the 90's, it'd be a group of friends all sharing one hotel room, and funds were always limited. Now days I share a room with only my wife, and spend considerably more money over all.

I've never participated in the EnWorld events. I always feel like I'd be crashing someone else's party.

I attended the four GenCons from 83-86 and enjoyed them a great deal. I know it's probably a very different event now, but after a long interregnum I'm back into gaming again and I find I want to attend again.

Having attended the recent GameDay in Providence, the ENWorld ShadowCon makes it that much more tempting...

I've gone from 2000-2006 and plan to continue my streak. I glimpsed the hidden ENW con two years ago and waded in hip deep last year. It rocks like granite.

Between travel, lodging, food and stuff, we set aside $2k for the con each year.
