Who attends GenCon?

Just curious about who here regularly attends GenCon, and who plans on going this year.
I have never attended, but would consider it if I had the time. Also, when you go to these events how much $ do you typically spend (on products), and do you find much or any support for OOP D&D (GG last year I heard ran a small run 1E module that sold out, but what about out of print stuff (are there places to pick up vintage 80s modules for instance? Also, do people run 1E/OD&D games there, or just the newer stuff (3E, C&C etc.)?

I gone quite a few years since the switch to Indy (I'm an hour away from there). This year ought to be really good as it is Gen Con's 40th anniversary so it should be SWAG paradise. As for older D&D stuff, there's always Crazy Igor's and one or two other places that have tons of older AD&D modules and publications.

I've been the last 3 years. I plan on going for the forseeable future. It really is that cool! I've never done the ENWorld Stealth Con, but I may have to try out some of these pickup games next time. In the past, my schedule has been so packed with D&D Minis that I just haven't had time to do much else.

I went to Gen Con for the last 2 in Milwaukee and each one in Indianapolis so far. I've met alot of people there that I keep in touch with regularly and usually only see at Gen Con each year. It's a great time gaming for sure but for me it's all about hanging out with everyone. We always have a blast no matter what's happening and that is what makes it so much fun. The fact that all this is happening and we get to game too makes it even better!

I went once when it was in Milwaukee and my wife and I have been every year since it moved to Indy. I usually end up spending the bulk of my time with the folks from Necromancer Games. Last year I ended up running a lot of pick up games/demos using my Shades of Gray adventure from Necro.

If you're looking for older edition games, you can find some, but you may have to look for a lot of pick up games not official events. If you're looking for older products, you can find a lot. Titan Games, Troll and Toad, and Crazy Igor's all have a vast selection of older stuff, and lots of other vendors have boits and pieces. Of course, you can always spend time at Frank Metzer's auction where he and luminaries like Tom Wham and others regale the crowd with stories of the old days at TSR and sell all kinds of game stuff, including a lot of 1E and OD&D materials. Two years ago this included the original cover art from Gods, Demigods, & Heroes, and last year had one of Gary ms of Temple of Elemental Evil, so you get to see an exhibit of cool pieces of D&D history even if you aren't bidding. So, the older stuff is there if you are looking for it. Frank also has an auction store with a lot of older material. Check with Frank's crew what their schedule is though, as sometimes it focuses on board games, miniaturs, and CCG's. Col. Lou Zocchi usually has a booth somewhere there as well with a lot of Game Science stuff, and usually has a decent selection of older edition stuff there as well, plus lots of old school dice,

One hint, if there are people from message boards you want to meet up with, definitely exchange cell numbers before hand and establish a place/time to meet up and play/ socialize, etc. The con is also a great time to try new games for free, as lots of demos are available in the dealer's area and you can try lots of things. COme witha spending budget and don't blow it the first day. You can definitely spend too much very quickly if you are not careful (especially at Frank's auction).

I haven't ever been but I plan on making the pilgrimage one day. Perhaps when my son is a bit older, he and I can go. I am always on the prowl for OOP stuff as well as playing pre 2e games. I'd really like to meet some fellow Enworlders and folks from other message boards I frequent in person. So, someday...

I'd like to give it a try one year but none of the people who I game with are hard core enough to go to a con, especially one out of state. I have went to the local Archon convention by myself a few years ago but it just isn't as much fun as going with buddies as I did in the 1980's. Even with the free beer there I can't get buddies into going.
