I voted for Orcus, but quite frankly, I think dropping the Eberron guys from the poll is a glaring omision.

I probably would have voted for Tharizdun if he'd been on there. Why Vecna and Iuz but not him?

I voted for Orcus, because really, who doesn't love a corpulent god of undeath. One of my first D&D experience's involved Orcus...not minions or a cleric of....but the Demon Lord Of Undeath himself. Ah Memories.

You said no gods, but If I'm correct Orcus is (or was) one, and so is Vecna.

I'd like to give props to Iuz (wait, isn't he a god also?), and the Gorgon from Birthright. I've never played a birthright camp. but I've used the Gorgon a few times in my homebrew and I loved it. My players...not so much.

Yeah, I'd vote for old Tharizdun as well...

Also voted for Orcus and Azalin Rex.

I voted for Soth as the others were kinda campy to me. Soth's story is tragedy, and the fact that (as of first appearance) he'd held onto his anger made him an evil most people can relate too.

All glory to Count Strahd von Zarovich. Simply, classy villains with brains win every time.

Iuz the Old, because he does the cliche so well. That and I play Living Greyhawk, in Iuz's Border States.

Honourable mentions to Szass Tam and Soth.

My votes went to Orcus and Vecna but there are a few classic villians who deserve props as well...

Ascerak
St. Kargoth
Iggwilv
Tiamat
Graz'zt

Cheers!

I am not too expert of any of these characters, but nonetheless I voted Count Strahd, Vecna and Szass Tam.

I have read the basic Ravenloft handbook, and Count Strahd gave me the impression of being evil in a very sophisticated way, not just the dumb BBEG who "wants to rule the world", but instead a much more realistic and dramatic evil, and therefore more impressive. I have never played Ravenloft, and still that setting gives me a feeling of being somehow restrictive, but the evil guy is really interesting.

Then the other two, which seem to me very similar (I suppose they could be the same person, with Vecna advanced to godhood), are also very scary. They are IMHO two of the best lich-types I've seen.

Ok, maybe the poll was about who's the meanest, but I actually picked who I think is more interesting...
