Mike Mearls hasn't even been mentioned yet? This guy has a near Midas Touch. Quintessential Rogue, Monster's Handbook, etc. He's written or had a hand in so much good stuff I can't even remember them all, though I own most.

Good call...how could I have failed to mention Mike Mearls

1) Hellhound.

2) I've gotten more use and ideas out of his books of prestige classes than any other d20 book I've picked up since the players handbook, and the Kids Coloring book of Critters is a brilliant idea.

3) Liber Equitas.

Chris Aylott

Q1. Who is your favorite d20 author?

A1. Chris Aylott.

Q2. Why?

A2. For his playful and atmospheric writing. And for his ideas.

Q3. What are some of this author's works that you particularly enjoy?

A3. The Last Dance.

M.

I have a three way tie here Chris Pramas and Hal and Doug from MEG.

These three guys put out stuff in various genres with verious types of content and do it consistently well. To me the mark of a truly excelent rpg author isn't how well he knows the rules, though it helps. It isn't how well he writes fiction, though it also helps. It is how good they are at using and adapting the rules to give their products a unique flavor and thereby market presence.

Favorite works by these gentle men in clude. The Hunt: Rise of Evil campaign setting, Blight Magic, Of Places Most Foul, Bluffsides, Freeport and Denizens of Freeport

Monte Cook

Why? I believe he is the best d20 writer out there. His works are imaginative and original. They always add flavor to the game. Where WoTC fails to create something unique, Monte knows how to create balanced rules that really add depth to a game.

Works: BoEM, BoEMII, BoEMIII, BoHM, DMG, Banewarrens, Website, WOTC cliffhangar adventures, and ARCANA UNEARTHED!

Dave

I don't have a single favorite. I like all the folks who have been mentioned already, and to them I'd add David Kenzer for his Kalamar Campaign Setting book. There's nothing else like it in the world!

Edit: OMG! I forgot the folks at Mystic Eye Games! I love the flavor of their stuff, from "Of Places Most Foul" to the Foul Locales Series to Tarot Magic to The Hunt. Sorry guys- don't beat me with a fish! :D

*slowly takes fish out of beating position*

In all seriousness, thanks!
