D&D 4E Who / What will be the main gods of 4E?

The Book of Tobit, which he is from, is not in the Bible, its in the Apocrypha.
hey, lets leave that subject alone, which religions texts are canon for which religions and denominations is so NOT an Enworld topic. We know Asmodeus IS in 4E, the discusion about whether that was a good idea is locked. This topic is about who else MIGHT be in the 4E Pantheon.

Slightly Off-Topic

Good for you! I wonder if you enjoyed Stargate (the show).
I enjoyed the film, but the TV series was aired on very uncomfortable and highly shifting timeslots, so I gave up trying to follow it.

There where some good spins on the Norse and Egyptian myths there, though. If I ever find it on DVD in a bargain box, I'll try to pick it up and watch the whole thing.

Putting a new spin on old myths is what fantasy and sagas are all about. I hope they do something similar in 4e.

I agree. This thread is screaming down the highway toward Locktown. Debating whose religion is right belongs on a very different board, and declaring some books biblical and some apocrypha is doing just that.

I'd like to see a mix, myself. If it were up to me, the following deities would be in the PHB:

Asmodeus
Bahamut
Corellon Larethian
Gruumsh
Lolth
Moradin
St. Cuthbert
Tiamat
Vecna
Yondalla

Anubis
Ares
Athena
Hecate
Isis
Odin
Osiris
Set
Thor
Tyr

As usual, Paizo has beat WotC to the punch. Asmodeus is a core deity in their Pathfinder campaign setting. According to Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide, his domains are Evil, Fire, Law, Magic, and Trickery. Favored weapon is mace (presumably not the kind that you spray :p).

Though it hasn't been said outright, there are a lot of indications that they are trying to go back in time to that 1st Edition feel with updated rules. I imagine that there will be several 'examples' of deific personages, but that they will leave the 'actual' deities to the separate campaign settings.

However, there has been some indication that the Forgotten Realms will be the darling of 4E, so that could be a possibility as well; which means that Asmodeus, Tiamat (Takhisis), Lolth, Moradin and the like could all reappear without breaking the existing pantheons.

Guess will find out soon enough.

I so want to see your reaction to Thor when he shows up in the series. :D
