Whole lotta lurkin' goin' on

You know, I came out and read often, but only in the last few months have I bothered to start posting on any of the boards other than Kenzer & Co's. Mostly because I run a prolific message board/chat for my primary world, so there are plenty of us out there going back and forth. When the summer slowdown hit this year I went "what the heck, it's gaming conversation"... :D

I didn't realize I was in the top 30 until I checked.

Actually I'm showing you as number 305 (unless you're talking about posts per day instead of total posts) so I think you must be doing a fine job at work. ;)

I post infrequently (== lurk?) mainly for three reasons:

1. Conversational drift in a topic I'd otherwise like to post in has already, by the time I've seen it, made my input moot.
2. What I wanted to say has already been said -- often better than I would have said it -- or I learn through reading the topic that what I wanted to say contains a factual/rules error.
3. I don't have time to compose a post I'd be happy with that day.

Ditto. Especially #2.

My 3,747 (as of this post) postcount has me firmly established at #92. I need to work harder.

Battle royale among the top 100 at the ENnies! :D

I didnt think subscribed threads worked anymore? Did that get turned on again after the upgrade ? How did I miss that ?

Yep, subscribed threads emails were turned back on after the server upgrade.

In almost all online forums, the majority of people who read them don't post. This often surprises people who do post, but it's non-posting that's the norm (and therefore doesn't deserve the daft insult of 'lurking').

I don't think anyone here is using the term "lurker" or "lurking" in an insulting manner.

I'll second all three of those reasons. I've been around on the boards since Eric Noah's site, but I'll only post if I have something new to say on a topic that interests me. I probably look at only 1-2% of the threads, but I stay around because I like to keep up with the news and probably once a week there's a really interesting discussion going on that I'd like to join in on.

Also, participating in one of the PbP games will dramatically increase your post count.
