Who's got HD TV?

I get ABC and would in HD, when I get it. :)

I'm still waiting a bit on price and still doing a bit of research. And to add some confusion to the mix I may be moving by the end of the year.

I'll just chime in and say I got myself a 34" widescreen CRT HDTV last week and got the HDcable hooked up this weekend. It's pretty sweet. I really enjoy playing HD/progressive scan PS2 games.

Well, not to rub your nose in it or anything, but last night's Lost was particularly gorgeous. The scenes on the beach with Sun and the scenes on the fishing boat in Korea? Beautiful...just beautiful. The whole lush scenery of Hawaii and elsewhere is just a great showcase for HDTV, IMHO.

Guh!!!

I guess that means I'll have to DL the HD feed and watch it on my HDTV via the component outputs on my PC. Thanks for the heads-up. :)

The quality won't be perfect but it will be 10x better than the non-letterboxed feed.

And yeah, that show is a perfect showcase. The first 2 eps blew me completely away in HD. I went back and watched them in normalvision and it lost something. No pun intended.

It should be noted that by starting this thread and continuing to follow it I will eventually just buy one at the lowest cost on impulse. I won't be able to hold out too long...

Dude, hold out until you get what works for you. I spent almost a solid 2 years of research before getting my system (and behaving financially). The time and effort paid off, big time.

This past weekend, I got the TV output to connect to my stereo receiver, so I could play Metroid Prime 2 and Resident Evil 4 in surround sound. Very Cool (and in the case of RE4, very creepy...).

The big decisions are all about what you want to watch, and what features matter the most to you. I wanted a TV with cablecard, for example, and that turned out to be a big deal, as I get the HDTV feeds for no extra money over cable, even without the cablecard...and since my tv has two tuners (but only one QAM tuner), I can leave the Tivo hooked up to the other channel feed. I also selected a TV that had an excellent reputation for it's 'stretch' modes of modifying 4:3 images to 16:9, since I knew I'd be watching a lot of 4:3 TV.

Animation, in particular, scales very well. We watched the pilot for Avatar: the Last Airbender last night, and there was very little artifacting.

You make a good point. Thanks for the advice. :)

I can hold off and probably should. Although, if I see one of the uber-TiVo units somewhere at a good price I'll probably take advantage of it since it's the only model out there that will do what I want. The thing this is kinda annoying is that I'll need a rotator for my off-air antenna to pick up all the local HD stations. Ick.
