Who's got the right stuff for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 1990s?

The 19th century didnt really have comics, or whatnot, so literary figures like Dracula, and such make total sense. The pulp literature of the 20th century was comic books and tv, so moving the paradigm makes some sense.

I loved the idea of some of the characters, though, like Charlene McGee. Thats a great call. Jason Bourne is another great call. Roland, the Gunslinger, might be another fine idea.

From My New Wave League game notes (circa 2002)

President Banzai has summoned last generation's greatest Heroes:

Egan Spengler - Currently committed in an Arkham insane aslyum (Ghostbusters)
B.A. Barracus - Currently incarcerated at a military prison
Angus MacGyver - The Inventor
Scott Howard - The Man Wolf (Teen Wolf)
Lydia Dietz - Witch and Medium (Beetlejuice)
Daniel LaRusso - The Crane (Karate Kid)
David Lightman - The Hacker (WarGHames)

Villains
John Rambo - Jihadi Terrorist
Doctor Emmett Brown - Time Traveling thief
Raymond Babbit - The Brain (Rain Man)
Seth Brundle Jr. - Brundlefly

and finally, The Invaders: All the villains are being manipulated by a shadowy cabal of wizened aliens with potent psionic abilities and a bizarre predilection for Reese's Pieces) ,

Alas, I've never had a chance to run it.

Also in the comic, they are occasionally aided by Sherlock Holmes, so we should have a super sleuth amongst them as well. Perhaps Batman? Personally, I think Edogawa Conan would work best in this, or perhaps even a grown up version of Encyclopedia Brown.

Colombo!

And I could see Michael J. 'Crocodile' Dundee in there somewhere :)

How about aging (he'd be 65) Secret Agent John Drake as team leader.

Sure, his shows (Danger Man, Secret Agent, and The Prisoner) aired in the late 1960's but that just makes him all that much more seasoned. He meets the requirement that he be below the radar of society, but more importantly, he isn't your stereotypical secret agent - he is a man of conscience.

..plus he had a killer theme song.

There's a man that lives a life of danger
To every one he meets, he stays a stranger
With every move he makes, another chance he takes.
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow.

I've been raking my brain (and google) for any British characters that might fit and all I can think of is Comedies, Dramas, childrens shows and historical period peices (which includes future periods)

The only figure I can think of who could fit is Worzel Gummidge the scarecrow (TV series screen late 70's early 1980's.) All he requires to be recommision is for his head to be screwed back on (and he had a selection of heads to choose from)

Oh and I want to mention Mr Rourke or possibly Tatu from Fantasy Island as needing to have a guest appearance
