Why a rapier is bad for an adventurer

Easton has been pretty upfront about the virtues of the rapiers as well. The advantage of the reach is phenomenal, they do not shatter with every slight sneeze as they are sometimes depicted, they can cut, and they even were at times used on the battlefield. The thing I've mostly gleaned from his and other similar channels is that for every point there is a counterpoint; for every rule an exception; and for every known there is an unknown, contested point, or guesswork. Nothing is pure, the sources conflict, and we don't know how much what has survived is representative.

Yet, despite what he claims generally (counterpoints, exceptions, unknowns, guess work, don't know how much has survived) in his content, 5 TOP Reasons BROADSWORDS DOMINATED Rapiers in WAR is the title. >.<

Naturally, the talk has revolved mainly around broadsword v. X, what kinds of weapons would be good for dungeon crawling, is the damage assigned to each weapon fair, representative and so on.

I'm not critical of OP, rapier is one of those funny relics for D&D along with a few others kinds of melee weapons; the topic is great and relates to how those weapons are represented in RPG's!

I only urge caution with claims people make on youtube, when well-known historians in their area of specialty have great difficulty reconstructing something, even when they have more first hand sources (e.g. in the case of a battle, having the actual handwritten orders from generals on hand to read) comparatively.

I've always been partial to the version of Whisky in the Jar by the rock & reel band Tempest... sadly (surprisingly!) they don't seem to have it on YT for easy linking.

I would tend to take Matt's word more that the average Youtuber, given what he does and what he's studied.

Reject swords. Return to polearms.

And, for a backup weapon, take a shortsword -- very popular with the sort of people who carried polearms IRL, and probably for good reason.
There's a whole meme in steelfighting / bohurt circles about how dangerous/effective halberds/poleaxes are.

And for funsies, here's a good video on a recent movie duel between two combatants in plate armor with longswords:
