Actually, the government in question was far from tyrannical. It was hardly representative, but it was among the least tyrannical of its day. What had happened is that we had been getting a free ride and the capital decided it was time for us to pay for our own protection. And THEN to make matters worse, London decided to actually HONOR a treaty made with the Indians!

For example, George Washington had illegally paid for surveyors to plot out lands north of the Ohio River, in violation of the Treaty of 1763, which guaranteed these lands to the tribes that were living there.

I don't want to get into it, but read the Declaration of Independence. There was far more to it than you make out.

I just discovered that Season 1 has been out on DVD for three months. First thing I'm doing when I get home is putting in an order with Amazon UK.

And maybe a preorder for Season 2.

The last time the show aired on New Zealand television, and the final episode played... and it came to the last scene...

... screen goes to black, and credits roll, and the sound of Federation guns firing...

"Listen!" we told a friend seeing it for the first time. "Listen carefully!"

Well, it looks like the Federation won in the end! Next week on TV2, we'll be bringing you...

Aargh! Bloody station announcement right over the important sound effects! Death death death! Grr!

Well the reason that you don't see a rebelliongainst the good empire is that people don't rebel against a government that is in their favor. Someone trying to overthrow this government and install a tyranny is what we call a military coup

You underestimate revolutionaries' ability to mislead the public.

In any society, there will be people unhappy with the current rule, benign or not. These folks will stir up what trouble they can to change the gov't. This can take the form of civil disobedience, protesting, terrorism, and at its extreme, civil war.

"Government in their favor" means different things to different people. To some it might mean complete cessation of government interference in the economy. To others it means wholesale wealth redistribution. "The People" don't have just one opinion. Makes the phrase "will of the people" an absurd idea... as if millions of people could agree on one thing... put two people together and they'll have disagreements.

Well, have you watched DS9? Although it was not the main thrust all the way through, there were some interesting episodes about rebellions within the Federation. May not be the most original of shows to you, but still..
