Why aren't flat chested women ever barmaids?

Yeah, that's not a stereotype, that's business sense. Heard of Hooters? Sexist? Yep. Smart? Definitely. Myself, I'm more of a perkiness than size guy.

...and another direct hit is taken by the concept of "D&D players have no trouble understanding the world"

"why do barmaids have big breasts"...indeed

Let my try to write this tastefully. (As an aside: a friend nearly got thrown out of a pub for saying this.)

It allows them to balance a stack of glasses (and potentially mugs) better. They have a larger bracing mechanism :uhoh:

Oh, I understand the world (everything except the part about women, but what man knows about that?). I just don't understand the fantasy world :p

What do these flat chested women do for a living?

Men are cool with a fat Half-Orc serving them drinks from behind the bar, but they'll run for the hills if a flat chested woman serves drinks from behind the bar? They aren't top-heavy enough to be barmaids but they aren't even charismatic enough to take a Half-Orc's job? It makes no sense! Where are these women in the fantasy world? Are they run off from their town? Is that why some of them disguise themselves like boys and become rogues?

1) Like someone said above, blame the Germans.

2) I thought the stereotype was that the barmaids in Ye Olde Tavern doubled as prostitutes, and thus, you want prostitutes that will garner the money.

This.

Ugly half-orc isn't an object to be sexualized. Besides, the "Grizzled Bartender" is another stereotype. Try to put a feminine, well groomed man behind the bar and see how well that goes over.

Hey, that gives me an idea. I notice you're not asking "Well, why aren't attractive men serving drinks"? After all, why is "drink server" reserved for just women?

But that brings me back to my point. Well groomed or not...it's still a dude behind the counter. So people would rather be served by a guy from behind the counter than a flat chested woman? That's nuts!

That's the thing though...we know why women are barmaids. I'm just wondering why it's always big breasted women in the fantasy world. I've seen plenty of A-cup waitresses/bartenders in the real world...so what gives in fantasy land? Do flat chested women have a lower Armor Class? Do tavern owners think they won't stand as good of a chance fending off an Orc invasion from within the tavern?

If a flat chested girl can't make it as a barmaid, then no way will a dude make it as one!

If they work in a drinking and eating establishment, they're probably also better fed. More body fat = bigger boobs to a certain degree.
