Why aren't the bids higher for the fundraiser?

A. Not going to GenCon. If I had money for a con it would be the Lake Geneva one on Gary's porch.
B. They're just people.
C. Flat broke ad infinitum.
D. Apathy. I don't care who wins an ENnie.

After getting outbid at $155.00 for the Necromancer deal I went for White Wolf because I don't "know" them and figured if I win it would be a great way to change that.

As for Joe and Suzi, I'm going to meet them anyways, and I already own all the swag, so the date was only worth about $30 to me. Now that metal basket was tempting.. :D

My g/f is always stealing my Vampire and Mage books anyway so threw in a bid for the White Wolf table.

If that were advertised a bit more at RPG.net, the fact that you get Promethian would probably get a few more $$ into that vote as well. A perfect 'intro' basket so to speak.

What auctions?

I haven't been around too much lately, but I did vote for the ENnies. And I don't recall seeing any advertising about the charity auctions.

Guess I'll go bid now. :)

I went to ebay and searched for ENnies Dream Date and here are the results that I got.

Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to bid. Perhaps some year.

Seeing as any bid I made would carry a hidden cost of about Cdn$2000-2500 to get to and stay at GenCon, it gets a bit out of reach... :(

Maybe next year. :)

Well, for me, the answers are as follows:

  1. Cost. The auctions for companies that I know and love are just too expensive for what you get. I've already ordered RA:R, and have Monte's book. I'd rather spend that $200 on gaming books I don't have.
  2. Wrong genre. I'm a D&D player. While I've heard good things about Ars Magica for example, I don't foresee myself ever playing it. If I do, I'll pick up a cheap copy rather than paying for the date just for swag purposes.
  3. "Don't know who they are" Syndrome. Dog Soul Publishing for example. The eBay postings says: "The winner of this auction will have a reserved seat at the table with Dog Soul Publishing, who are nominated for an ENnie award for Best Electronic Book and another for Best Writing. " That's great - what's the product they were nominated for again?
  4. Poor advertising - as noted in previous posts. No one knows what this is, and it doesn't appear to be promoted on any boards but EnWorld.
  5. Time. The Ennies are great, but take up a huge chunk of time. And it's right in the middle of my True Dungeon crawl. Sorry, TD wins that one. Likewise, I've got a ton of other things to do, and a longish ceremony is not high on the priority list, especially on a Friday night.

I just don't have the funds. I wish I did, I love the stuff being offered on these dream dates, but I just can't afford it. It was dicey if I could even get to Gen Con until a month ago.
