D&D (2024) Why aren't you using 5e 2024?

Why aren't you using 5e 2024?

Because I'm waiting for the books to come out (all of them).
Because I'm getting the books for Christmas (2025 Xmas).
Because I'm in the middle of a campaign and waiting for a new one to convert.
and I'm playing PF2. :D

As I mentioned before in many other threads, for one of the main technical reasons not to use 5.5e is the abundance of options for changing characters abilities after build, which IMXP makes everyone play a bit more lousy due to less risks.

A non-technical reason, is that the latest edition always brings on board the kinds of players with whom I don't want to play, so there is always a benefit for me to play a non-current edition over the current one.

No monster manual yet

Because I don't ever actually play any game I just read them to complain on the internet.

I'm trying to but scheduling is so hard.

I got kicked out of my group for being a constant pain in the ass and I never shower.

I went with the rant option. 5e is too magical and I like lower magic settings. When almost every subclass has access to spells and mystical powers it's hard to achieve the setting I want ( and used for 5e by limmiting subclass and class options) Maybe when they release more sub classes for fighters and rouges that don't have magical/physic/mystical powers I will give it a try.

I'm also in the Waiting For All The Books To Come Out / Getting Them For Christmas pool. Once that occurs, then we'll see when I start using 5E24.

But to have some fun in the thread in the spirit for which it was created, here are my answers as to why I didn't vote for the other choices:

Because 5e has been garbage, and is a lost cause:
NOT TRUE. 5E IS A FUN GAME THAT I HAVE ENJOYED, JUST LIKE I'VE ENJOYED EVERY OTHER PREVIOUS EDITION OF D&D. THEY HAVE ALL BEEN FUN GAMES IN AND OF THEMSELVES.

Because nothing can be better than 2014 5e:
NOT TRUE. 5E14 HAS BEEN GREAT, BUT IT ISN'T A PERFECT GAME FOR ME THAT WOULD PRECLUDE ME PLAYING ANYTHING ELSE (INCLUDING A REVISED VERSION OF IT.) I DON'T HAVE A NEED TO PLAY ONLY ONE SINGLE GAME AT THE EXPENSE OF ANY OTHER.

Because I'm old, and don't handle change well:
WELL, I'M A GEN Xer, SO YEAH I'M PROBABLY 'OLD' BY TOTAL D&D AUDIENCE STANDARDS... BUT I HANDLE CHANGE JUST FINE AND ENJOY CHANGING THINGS UP FROM GAME TO GAME AND CAMPAIGN TO CAMPAIGN. EVERY CAMPAIGN I START HAS SPECIFIC HOUSE RULES ATTRIBUTED TO IT TO HELP FIT THE SETTING AND STORY WE ARE GOING TO BE PLAYING.

Because WOTC/Hasbro is mean to staff / mean to customers:
I CARE ABOUT PRODUCTS AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE COMPANIES / PEOPLE WHO PRODUCE SAID PRODUCTS. I'M VERY MUCH A 'LOVE THE ART, NOT THE ARTIST' KIND OF PERSON, SO WHAT WOTC/HASBRO DOES IS NOT A CONCERN FOR ME AT ALL.

Because D&D isn't as good as _________.:
DEPENDING ON WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IN A GAME AT A PARTICULAR MOMENT IN TIME, THIS WILL CERTAINLY BE TRUE. BUT THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE. WHEN I WANT TO PLAY A PARTICULAR STYLE, GENRE OR GAME I'LL PLAY IT-- WHETHER IT'S D&D OR SOMETHING ELSE. CHOOSE THE BEST GAME FOR THE NEEDS AT HAND. THE PRODUCTION OF 5E24 HAS NOT CHANGED THAT FACT.

Because $50 books are a burden on my disposable income:
NOT TRUE. BECAUSE I WAS TELLING PEOPLE HERE ON THE BOARDS LIKE 2 YEARS AGO WHEN ONED&D WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED THAT WE WERE 24 OR MORE MONTHS OUT FROM THE BOOKS BEING RELEASED... AND THAT IF ANYONE THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO WANT TO BUY THEM BUT WERE AFRAID OF THE COST... THAT ALL THEY HAD TO DO RIGHT THERE AND THEN WAS TO START SAVING ABOUT LIKE $7 A MONTH FOR THE NEXT 24 MONTHS AND THEY'D BE ABLE TO BUY THE BOOKS. DON'T GO TO STARBUCKS ONE TIME EACH MONTH AND THEY'D BE FINE AND HAVE THE CASH SAVED TO GET 5E24 WHEN THEY WERE RELEASED. SO I DO NOT FIND THE "IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE" TO BE AN ARGUMENT WORTH MUCH SALT.

Not a fan of the implied insult, but my reasons are mostly that I have a 5e game I like much better (Level Up), that I don't want to spend $150 on books that are unlikely to be better for my playstyle than what I already have, and some bitterness over a franchise that I have been emotionally invested in for decades deciding to straight up state it is not interested in what I enjoy about D&D-style gaming anymore, or indeed even pretending it is interested in such.

You know, I do feel better. Thanks OP!
