Why can't you play Dragons that are older?

Why on earth can you not play Dragons of young adult or adult age? I mean, for crying out loud! People can play Angels, mindflayers, and several other things that are worse than toddler Dragons!

Because the MM only goes up to 20th level

ALso, Solars are not on the list of playable creatures becasue they are level 20+

You can, if you use the Epic Level Handbook, and are playing in an Epic game...

Perhaps because young adult and adult dragons are serious challenges in their own right and have a whole raft of powers at their disposal? Seriously, given that ECL normally exceeds CR quite handily, and then go and check up various adult dragon CRs...

Anyway like many have said, when you start using older dragons and solars we are talking serious powers here. Solars alone could take a beating from some Demon Lords and still manage to survive. Imagine dragons facing down some epic level monsters. Then you can see why it's nigh impossible to use in non-epic game.

Especially dragons with PC amounts of magical items. AC 80? No problem

Yep and if they can change their natural armor bonus to deflection bonus along with being able to wear specially made armor, they get into the 90s even.
