They do it to all the other classes, so why not?so we need to artificially stop that? make them less able to cover all roles
Take away Enchantment and Illusion and give those to Bard. Give divination to Cleric.

I dont' understand the issue people have with a wizard not carrying a weapon. Even though most rods and staves qualify as such.Incidentally, I'd be much more on board with cantrips if they were something you burned a spell slot for. Being able to turn any spell into eldritch fire or something because you are a true master of flame sounds rad, and still gives you a reason to carry a weapon.
One of the few things I do like better in 1e ADnd is illusionists being a seperate class from wizard. They do it to all the other classes, so why not?

but I hate bard and do not think it should existThey do it to all the other classes, so why not?

We do exist.but I hate bard and do not think it should exist
You're so wrong it's laughable. Seriously are you trolling?
You wrote "spellcasting". And even the Wizard isn't a pure Vancian caster.1. This assumes Cancian casting is a plus.
And yes, spells should be more limited. But bards can't do literally anything especially as every individual bard has a hard cap on spells known. This is where wizards really break things.2. If the bard's signature feature is the ability to do anything, and the cleric's signature feature is the ability to do anything, and the druid's signature feature is the ability to do anything, and the sorcerer's signature feature is the ability to do anything, and the wizard's signature feature is the ability to do anything, I think we've done a poor job diferentiating the various classes. Maybe - just maybe - we can consider the idea that some classes might have a signature feature that isn't the same as every other spellcaster?
It's not that you "need to", and most certainly do not expect WotC to ever do that in any future edition, but at least that's what I do with my own Wizard characters on a voluntary basis.so we need to artificially stop that? make them less able to cover all roles
