D&D 5E Why do you use Floating ASI's (other than power gaming)? [+]

Con/Wis (Bond is easy to knock out and always falls into trap), Con (Indie lacks stamina), and Int (Aragorn has to be told literally everything).
I can't support Con as a weakness for Bond. He takes punishment. A lot of it. Con is his highest stat. It's even clearer reading the books that his greatest talent is the ability to take a beating and endure the unendurable.

But with the way point buy works, you can get a 16 and a 14 in the two stats your race (or floating bonuses) increase regardless of which one is +2 and which one is +1.
True, although being able to get a level 1 17 (so you can grab a half feat at 4 instead of a full ASI) is also a big deal.

At least, it is to me, but I prefer getting feats to taking boring ASIs, even though that's usually suboptimal.

Compared to humans all orca are pretty damn strong. They weight several tons and can sink a small boat.

But what if you wanted to play a weak orca? Why couldn't you put the extra ability points that orcas get in Strength into Int instead?
The idea that people need a +3, is an accusation other‘s keep making, demanding it be admitted even.
?
The idea that they need a +3 is a statement that several people in this thread have made. Trying to paint it as some sort of false accusation comes off a little weird when its right there in the posts.

I am fairly sure that those people who have said that they feel they need a 16 in their prime ability score to feel viable are not the types to try to force it on others. I can't see them actually objecting to someone else's character because they only have a 14 in their main score.

Most content wasn't based around healer checks, in my experience.

DPS Checks...yep.
Dead DPSers deal no DPS.

He fails to die, has a string will (in the form of Charisma rather than Wisdom) and often overpowers people. It still doesn't make up for the off button on the back of his skull.

No, but missing by 1 or continually doing 1d8+2 when you could have had 1d8+3 just feels bad.

Like, maybe it doesn't feel bad to you, but I hate it.
You miss by one 5% of the time. It is one point of damage. You still kill the monster. No, I really don't get it.

Also, if you used the custom lineage with a correct feat, you could start with a 18. That's the same difference than 16 has over 14. Why are you not always thinking that you could have done that when you're playing your ability 16 character?

15 before racial bonuses though, that’s crucial. For better or worse, 5e assumes a racial bonus in the prime requisite. It’s also worth noting, through the entirety of the open playtest, races granted +1/+1 instead of +2/+1, and classes gave +1 to their prime requisite, or in some cases a choice between one of two abilities (such as fighter getting to choose between +1 strength or +1 dex and monk getting to choose between +1 dex or +1 wis). In that iteration, any character could start with a 16 in the prime requisite for their class, regardless of race. If this was still how it worked, I think a lot fewer people would take issue with fixed racial ASIs.
Oh for naughty word's sake. Let me guess, they changed this because of 'feedback'.

The more I hear about D&D Next the more it sounds straight up better than the 5e we actually got.

Where there serious problems in that playtest that were corrected?

... if not... maybe they shouldn't have ran a playtest...

Not to speak for them (he said as he does so) they do, I believe, use that rule, or VHuman.
