Level Up (A5E) Why does a noble have a +1 STR

The idea that starting ability score increases must be tied to some other choice you make at character creation, with rationales ranging from strong to flimsy as justifications for stereotypes, is dying a slow, protracted death.

We must be careful, though! That way lie freeform, classless systems like GURPS and Torg, and we can't allow that to happen.
Actually being a fan of HERO I'd love to see a well implemented classless but otherwise traditional 5E game. The design would have to be incredible.

I personally am looking at adding a you become stronger according to what you do...house rule at level 1 you gain a +1 in a primary of your class and one other attribute (may do more later).

As said before, nobles in the Middle Ages were a warrior class, so it makes some sense. As usually implemented +1 CHA is a little more logical but...hey, it's a game.

In a Chinese-inspired setting you could make a pretty good case the mandarins had +1 INT...they had to take a big long exam about Confucian writings, the very distant ancestor of our SAT via the British civil service exam. (Of course if you had connections you could get around it...)
