D&D 5E Why does no one play Goliath?

Like some of the other posters, I am playing a goliath in a Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. Mine is a paladin (now level 4, Oath of Devotion). He worships Lathander/Amaunator. I haven't seen any others play goliaths, though I've an admittedly small sample size.

Isn't playing a goliath just asking to be killed by a bard armed with a sling?
It wasn't a bard, but there was a sling hurled freezing sphere that killed a bunch of goliaths in one game in which I played. Two players asked me, "Really? REALLY?" ... and I totally failed to make the connection that day.

... But no one plays enough games to really get a sample of how the whole community plays, so OP isn't seeing any
D&DBeyond, while not perfect sampling, has released some statistics from the characters that are being updated.

This is the most recent stat I recall seeing (2 years old), and it has Goliaths at "pretty popular" at 7th: Human, Half-elf, Tiefling, Dragonborn, Elf, Half-orc ... Goliath.
