Why don't clerics get Fox's Cunning or Cat's Grace?

Only wizards & sorcerers get all of the ability boost spells. Clerics miss out on dex & int, while druids lose int & cha. And the "hybrid" casters only get 3 of them: bards get dex, int, and cha; paladins get str, wis, and cha; and rangers get dex, con, and wis.

How did you know I was playing a Bar 1/Clr X character?

A barbarian cleric of Kord isn't a slow turtle though. I hope not anyway.
Yeah, had one in my first 3.0 group. He had an extra heavy heavy armor. Movement 15 ft.

He was fun though with int 6.

Me hate clerics.

I can't say I've seen any designer put in print that this was the way it was set up, but it always seemed that way to me.

In first ed., it was pretty explicit. If your strength was below 6, you HAD to be a magic-user (single-classed), if your int was below 6, you HAD to be a fighter (single-classed), if your wisdom was below 6, you had to be a single-classed thief, and if your dex was below 6 you had to be a single-classed cleric.

If your con was below 6 you had to be a single-classed illusionist, and if your charisma was below 6, you had to be a single-classed assassin.

If you had two ability scores below 6 (or if you had one ability score below 6 and failed to meet the minimum ability score prerequisites for the class you had to become), your character would be impossible to create, going by the rules.

Yeah, pretty much. STR and CON are traditional (combat) Buff targets, WIS and CHA are important to the Cleric class. INT is for Wizards (and Rogues) and DEX is for Rogues (right after INT). It's true that a lot of other classes would benefit from +4 DEX, but if you're going to drop two abilities, those are the ones that a) aren't really "prime" for Clerics or "fighty", IMHO.

OTOAA, switching out which four where available by deity could be interesting...
This is what we do- our gods of magic, for example, usually have INT instead of STR.

Celerity, Elf, and Halfling domains get cat's grace.

Baator domain gets fox's cunning.

For some reason the trade domain has Eagle's Splendor as a 3rd level spell. I'm not sure who would ever choose that.

I don't understand why it's not just one spell, where you choose the ability score to boost by +2. Seems like a cheap way to increase the number of spells in the book.

Take Magic Domain as one of the Cleric domains.
Then you have access to the spells.
Sorry not really answering your question :)

2nd level cleric spells include buffs for STR, CON, WIS, and CHA, but not INT or DEX.

Why do you think that is?

That's what Arcana Unearthed did and I stuck the attribute boost spell chain(lesser, standard, greater) into the rest of the games.
