A RPG money bonus makes sense and certainly won't hurt. It should be automatic, of course, like for posting. It shouldn't be too hard to code, either.

Don't write reviews for people, write them for yourself. It's liks a storyhour in that regard. And don't worry about comments, most of the reviews never get comments. Most of mine never do, that I know for sure. Sure Sword and Fist might be outdated, but I know people who still use it and its still for sale especially discounted at used book stores. Write a review on it and spend time mentioneing how tough it would be to make it 3.5 you can use your review to make a stall product new again.

I'm gonna back Crothian up on this. There've been a few times when a month's release lineup was a little bland, so I delved into the reviews database to find something I might have missed previously, or that got treated a little harshly at first but over time people realized was a gem in the rough.

Several times I have found something interesting months after its initial release, and been quite happy with my purchase. So don't worry about timeliness, just post a review if you've got something good to say - or heck, even if you've decided a product *has* gone stale and been overshadowed by something released after. It's all good information.

THat would be up to Morrus....I could do something out of my own account which would be easy once I get a good savings and can use interest. But the reviews would still have to be solid.

Crothian---I dig ya BUT do not use your money to help get reviews done...that is just weird to me, earning points toward some items sounds cool if it could be done and then ask a few of us for some product for that may work or heck use the post ENnie left over books form the judges as incentive gifts for reviews, however you decide to do it I beg of you keep your cash, when you get to be my age you will realize, save it or buy something you need, don't buy a review ;) , you may also give any of our pdf's for review out, only condition is one at a time, and every review they do you can send another, make 'em work for it.

As for "harsh" reviews--I do not care, what I care about is that you read the book and give it a fair review, 1-5 does not matter a fair well done review gets you more product.

Ok, back to the grind.

It's not real money Hal. Morrus has set up a game called RPG. In it community supporters play characters and fight against each other and the computer. "money" is gained by posting and fighting...so its this money I'd be offering. I'm way to poor to giver real money to people for reviews :D

For a long time, it probably never would have occurred to me to post a review - don't know why, I just sort of never thought about it.

Also, my time was so short, I didn't have time to do it. (Which is how I voted). But going forward, I think I will have time, and now that this is the case, I think I'm going to start posting some reviews...

But how willing are those publishers really willing to accept a critical review?

I am, for one. And I suspect many others are as well. Some discussions I've had with other publishers lead me to believe that most of us want an honest review more than a glowing, "fan" review.

And that's as much as I can hope for anyone. Give it a try, see if you can and like doing it. I found out I enjoyed it. My first reviews really were not that gtreat and it took me a while to get better. I'm still not a great reviewer but I hope to keep improving.

I've just started writing up reviews. I find that if it's a newer publisher they would give you a free copy of the work (especially if it's PDF), but I would like to do it more and more but I don't know how to contact publishers to get review material or whom to goto.
I'm always on the lookout for individuals who want to make a commitment to reviewing. In return, you do receive some free product (both print and pdf) and the expectations regarding the reviews are only that you do your best to be critical, thorough, and fair for every product you review and do it all in a timely manner. It also means you get to review some of the newest novels from Wotc before they even are released to the bookstores. Anyone who is interested in this, can email me.

I'll just echo a few more comments here.

Write because you want to write. Comments from Internet readers are rare, and often quite short. Don't get into it for praise, or rewards, other than what you can give yourself.

I'm going to start reviewing a few books I've had in my possession for a while, even though they're older. I won't be able to buy much for now, so that's all I can do. I want to write though, and might as well share some of my opinions on the products I've bought.
