D&D General Why Elon Musk Needs Dungeons & Dragons to Be Racist

Please, I only ask to recover the good sense and the respect for the human dignity.

It is not only if you are right or wrong but in the way you are saying your own opinion. Some times we need more diplomacy and empathy.

It's perfectly normal for authors to express their own points of view in their works. The key is knowing how to do it correctly. For example G.R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" talk a lot about the politics, or at least about the powerful people moving the strings, and nobody complains about that. The wrong way is when a title is used for propaganda or to promote writer's own prejudices. Let's remember for example if natives appear in a 2026 far-west movie these can't be showed in the same way than in 50's year because sensibilities have changed.
I don't ask you to say the other is right and you are wrong but in the name of the good sense to try to understand the point of view by the others, at least to find some possible weak point. Let's remember Sun Tzu's quote "know your enemy and know your self". We have to notice the possible influence of passions like the fear, pride, fear, envy or desire about our own points of view. Convincing and being persuasive is not about forcing others to agree with you.
D&D changes with the years, and this is necessary but the right changes is when we get the best of the new and the old ones.
In the past I said some in these years the entertaiment industry will change and I still think some things are happening behind the curtains.
Not always is about money but some people could be interested into companies what work within the entertaiment industry for the "soft power", the power to affect the culture of different societies.
* Are the "formians" an example of how our real life can affect the game? Because some times I suspect the formians haven't appeared in 5e because these could be used like an allegory of certain faction or group from the real life.

* I apology if my words could make other to feel annoyed or unconfortable. My mouth can be clumsy but my intentions are pure

So, what was the explanation for why Elon Musk "needs DnD to be racist"? Those excerpts don't seem to have anything to do with the premise

I highly doubt that Elon Musk needs DnD to be anything whatsoever, I'm pretty sure he's doing just fine no matter what DnD does
A year or so ago he speculated about purchasing WotC because he didn't like that the foreword to the 50th anniversary book acknowledges that some of the original publications reprinted therein are racist, sexist, etc.

But yeah, it just seemed like more attention-seeking behaviour. He didn't really have anything serious to say.

Again, even after reading the article, there isn't a whole lot new here. This has been hashed out here on these boards and elseward a bunch of times over the last ten or fifteen years. It started, IMO, with the shift in D&D art and then has spread to the rest of the game. The fact that this coincides with the HUGE growth in the hobby, driven almost entirely by women and non-white gamers is, in my opinion, not a coincidence at all.

Mod Note:

This thread is clearly political in nature. It’s also generating several reports. And because it’s behind a paywall, it’s impossible to accurately evaluate whether this topic warrants the leeway we occasionally grant to topics that are discussion-worthy to the ENWorld/gaming community.

So thread closed.
