Why Enworld?

To tell people exactly how they are running their game is wrong and how much better I could be running it. ;)

Because there are people here who have interesting things to say about gaming in general. Because my job is so very boring at times. Because I had quit playing DnD when I stumbled on the site in 1999 and it brought me back. To see what crothian's post count is at. Because I live in a smallish city 12 hrs driving north of the us/canada border and if I relied on my flgs to determine what DnD products were available to me, I would have quit again in the belief that there was nothing out there for me.

Why did I come back?

For myself, the more apt question would be ‘Why did I come back to Enworld’?

I had joined ENworld as The Grymlorde(R) back when Eric was running the place. At that time the only real alternative was the newsgroup rec.frp.dnd (or something). The signal to noise ratio at the newsgroup had become unbearable once 3rd edition was announced so Eric's place was a good alternative by comparison.

In the beginning there was lots of enthusiasm and oldtimers coming back. However, upon posting house rules or asking ‘what if?’ questions the criticism was less than constructive. In fact, less constructive then rec.frp.dnd was during its heyday. So I stopped posting and reading the boards. I still checked the news from time to time. Over the last five years I think I only read the posts at Sean Reynold's site but by last year, Sean's site had become a shadow of its former self. (As an aside I was active at Monte's site initially but then it deteriorated also.)

Last year I started poking around the ENworld boards again and much to my pleasant surprise the quality of the content had improved. There were more thought provoking topics and less knee jerk responses than before. So I joined again, albeit as Griffith Dragonlake. I suspect that the people who still post after 6+ years of 3e tend to be more thoughtful than those who came and went.

There is still a good amount of noise, knee jerk reactions, and some favouritism but it's the best out there at the moment.

I just hope that 4e doesn’t bring back the noise (but it probably will). :(

1. Because despite the attitudes of some, this is by far the best D&D discussion board in the world. I can come here and read/post about any number of topics and get some great replies.

Yes. I was a (sorta) regular on the WotC COMmunity boards a while ago, I found a link to some discussion here and I've been stuck ever since. I like the EN World community because it feels like you know people, there are a lot of familiar faces... er, screen-names. :D

EDIT: The bracket goes "["

To spread the word of the various flying tenticled monsters. May their long apendages touch us all.

I came here for the pbp games, when I couldn't find a game around town. I stayed for the people, then left, then came back for the people again. I love this place. No matter what I'm in the mood for there is a forum I can surf.

I stumbled upon ENW in 05 and, being an amature House Rulesy-kinda guy, I initially stayed for that, crafting many different things over in the HR forum.

I eventually branched off into the General forum and OT and Rules (only when I need to look up something obscure or I need a good laugh ;)) and got completely immersed in the community. Many from ENW, I would call a friend; there are tons fo great people here.

I stay for the great community and vibe it has, the interesting insights from industry people, the great (!) ideas I get for adventures and campaigns in general, the DMing help here and everything else.

ENW truely is the greatest d20 site on the net, IMO. Hell, we get a mention in DMing or D&D (can't recall) for Dummies fer Pete's sake!

cheers,

ENWorld was pretty much the first gaming forum-board I jumped into, other than some yahoogroups e-mail lists, and this place has so far been a bottomless fount of ideas and interesting discussion; I've seen no reason to go anywhere else (well, except CircvsMaximvs, and I only joined that yeaterday...). Thus far (unlike many others, it seems) I've stayed out of the rules forums, as they seem to mostly deal with 3e and that's not what I DM... :) But there's always something interesting in General.

Me? I was here intially to learn about the new fangled ideas for 3e, wandered away to Monte's boards for a bit, then returned here when the signal/noise ratio started to get on my nerves.

Why do I stay?
- Elements of Magic
- House Rules Forum to see new ideas
- RavenCrowKing's rat maze's :)
- Rules forum to learn how to block exploits and handle corner cases
- Elements of Magic
- The community ... feels like hanging out with a bunch of freinds.
- Being able to check a plot or rule with like minded people before subjecting my group to them
- Did I mention EnWorld Publishing? :D
