Why hate onthe drow? (Forked Thread: How is FR changing with 4E?)

And somehow this race that constantly murders and devours itself has conquered the entire Underdark?

That's my major issue with them. Their culture just doesn't come as believable or survivable. (And it's worse then, say the Klingon Warrior culture, where everyone wonders if there are any Klingon farmers at all...)

IME there is really no great hartred for the Drow - if you look at the whole D&D player base. On the internet however, where you´ll meet loads of experienced DMs and players, it´s something else.

Because they took a good look at Driizt and the Salvatore books and thought:
"I can do better."
"While sleeping."

But lot´s of new guys (both new to D&D novels or the game) love Driizt. He is the simple side of D&D that we try to ignore after getting experienced.

Speak for yourself - I've met many people who don't often go on the internet that can't stand drow themselves ;p

Quite frankly, the more one reads or knows about drow, the more they tend to hate it. I'm sure some people who don't know anything about drow have no problems with them. Mostly because they don't know anything about drow.

Funnily enough you should mention her, in the ongoing (20 years) solo campaign with my buddy, his drow assassin character had an affair with her.

…Of course I'll spring the pregnancy on him down the line.

How is she sure it's his kid? Because she 's Qilué Veladorn and she says it is.

I cannot agree with that. Who would read scores of novels, pushing them into the bestseller lists, when they wouldn´t like drow? And after 1 Driizzt book, you know enough about drow to decide to love or hate them.
