Why is D&D for sale?

I keep hearing that Elvis is alive and working in a convenience store somewhere.
I met him coming out of Burger King a few years ago.
Three of him.
There was a convention in town. (Believe it or not, every word of this statement is true... Over a dozen impersonators were in town that day.)

You don't by any chance always happen to talk to your friend about this during the month of April, do you?

Seems a bit of a stretch to believe that something as catclysmic as this has been publically posted by Hasbro online somewhere and in all these years only your friend has managed to stumble across it.

Here's one solid fact: there is a stack of surplus capital globally chasing too few assets. If I owned Hasbro I would most certainly put D&D up for sale at this point in time as some clown is very likely to pay more than it is worth (and I say that because without the electronic rights there is a little chance of a big payday: releasing a new edition is NOT a big payday).

I wonder exactly what Hasbro sold Infogrames as far as electronic rights. We know it was a 15 year exclusive. However, some things that came out later (such as Hasbro selling it a 7 year license for such games as Scrabble when it bought back the Transformer rights) make me wonder.

The 2005 agreement on their classic game titles was only for "wireless, Internet (online games), and interactive television formats."

The same story states: "the joint statement makes a point of saying that Infogrames will retain exclusive rights to Dungeons & Dragons in "all interactive formats" for another 10 years." I wonder if Hasbro publishing some of the electronic tools they are planning online would count as an "interactive format."

I guess this means that all the pipe dreams about electronically interactive D&D for 4E are just that, unless 4E is made in cooperation with Infogrames, or else in 2015.

I also thought that this exact topic has come up before. With exactly the same sum of money mentioned.
