Why no Magic the Gathering minis?

I'd have to guess it's because WotC has decreed that Magic and D&D shall not e'er touch...and minis are handled by the RPG division. Introducing MtG Minis would probably make the Magic folks think that D&D is taking them over...and, as discussed in the "Explain Magic" thread on this board, the WotC staffers who work on Magic really hate that idea.

They did have a line of Magic: the Gathering miniatures, about ten, eleven years ago. The minis were done by Heartbreaker.

Considering what they looked like, I am not surprised someone might be opposed to the idea.

I think the "minis" that they've done (both in the past and the newest ones) are more like action figures / miniature sculptures, just meant to be collector's items, rather than have an actual in-game use.

Considering that Magic: the Gathering is in no way enhanced by the prescense of minis at the gaming table, I can't see a line of minis evolving.

Sculptures / action figures based off of iconic cards are plausible, and already exist (I recall seeing a 6" Serra Angel statuette in a gaming store once). But not minis.

Much like a RPG, it seems an obvious route to take and with their current level of expertise, the figures would be awesome.

I'm guessing it's because minis, while traditionally used in RPGs, have absolutely nothing to do with TCGs and that an exploitable crossover market doesn't exist.

Actually at least one of the old Magic the Gathering figures was pretty decent - the Plague Rats figure has terrorized many an adventurer in my games.
