D&D 5E Why Not? A Variant Captain Fighter

Remainder of the fight is probably too long without continued saves. Spells don’t even do that, and these are per short rest abilities that you can stack multiple of per Action.
A slow spell affects how many characters and how long... and what other affects does it have... I think you are thinking 4e.

I mean sure we could put a save ends on it in it. I guess. The spell does but as I said its multi target and has other effects too.

Slow involves saves to end the effect early, and a slowing strike can be used multiple times in an action, and is on top of full attack damage.

Unless you’re making a maneuver that uses your entire action, and does reduced damage compared to an attack action, one of the most powerful control spells in the game isn’t a great comparison point.

A few short rest dice to do 3 attacks that slow each target and deal extra damage isn’t out of line in terms of cost vs payout.
I am mostly convinced to be honest. There are several ways this could be achieved with an at-will in 4e. With the trade an extra attack to do a maneuver (or the Bravura or Overexertion options to gain extra ettacks) I am less bothered by CS dice costs because situationally you have the option to decide.

Here is one in effect every turn you can slow an enemy and in 4e enemy position is arguably more important (ok only a small amount unless you admit that part is mostly advertising)

A Ranger is good foundation for conversion sakes since the 4e Twin Strike could have been done balanced almost the same the way multi-attacks are done on the fighter. 2 attacks are like the 4e twin strike plus class feature. Its also the simple to play damage dealer specialist of 4e (who can have its control enhanced via a damage trade off)
