Why the resistance to the new(er) edition?

Because there was nothing that stood out in 3e that I couldn't fix in a minute to fit my tastes. Get rid of True Ressurrection, add in instant death criticals, ban the sorcerer, ban dwarves from being arcane spellcasters, and change halflings from tiny humans into Hobbits. None of those things were changed in 3.5e so why do I need those books? For the New DR? Oh that's game changing! Mega pumped up fiends? That sucks for me. Now when the new Green Roning daemon book comes out I'm going to leave it on the shelf since it will be full of the 3.5 "fiends on steriods" so it won't mesh very well with the 3.0 versions I use. Actually most of the 3.0 books that have fiends are screwed since they were so pumped up in 3.5. Now if you don't mind Bel, lord of the first layer of Hell to be no more powerful than a stock pitfiend that's fine, for me it would make no sence. So then my stuff in BOVD is impacted, I have to rework it or just sigh and put the book on the shelf for good. Oh wait the pokepaladins...well actaully that's nearly enough to make me not upgrade right there. ;) New weapon size catagories? That's a game breaker that needed fixing. Changing around a lot of spells, some in very subtle ways that invalidates my Green Ronin spell books? Not a selling point for me.

Upgrading means too much work for me and I can see no tangible benefits to it. But then again me and my players aren't the rules lawyers with the phrase, "this is BROKEN, this isn't balanced...", coming out of thier mouths every six seconds. If you don't see any improvement, and your future purchases will need to be reworked to fit your rules, of course you are going to be resistant to WOTC putting out a major revision, and some are going to bitch about it.

Well the reason is it was too soon to do a revision like this. It sould have been 5 years before they put it out. Thats the way it was wit TSR, Hasbro put pressure on WOTC to put it out early.

Hey CT:rolleyes: , good to see you returning to the boards.

In the last thread this CT was pretty darned funny

Thank You, and that is the bottom line I am funny (looks and all), it is all for effect, when I am at home I almost never where my hair that big and have fairly normal clothes. I also do not wear make up at home..well accept when one of my groupies wants me to look like a cherub et al...but that is a whole other version of role-playing  .

As for quick one liners...

You know what the highlight of a *blank* (put in insulting city, state, country here) wedding is?

When the bride's water breaks.

What do you get when you cross Gamma World and TMNT RPG by Palladium?

The same game but different rolls---I mean a Cyber-Chipmunk who wields a dagger and a hand cannon---c'mon people get real ;)

heeeeeeheeeeeheeeeehooooohooooohooooo

Ok, enough caffeine and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups for me.
Thanks for all the responses.

Reality check bro ?!?!?
Try re-reading my post. I never said it was an expensive hobby....I just said that buying the books was an 'expense' some people don't want. You'll notice from my post that I bought the books. Some people don't feel the need to spend $65 - $100 bucks, which addresses the original question.
I guess I missed the subtlety.

3.5 is awesome and well worth the cash to me. I spend maybe 200 bucks a year on RPG stuff. Pretty cheap for a pasttime I put so many hours into.

You know why brides in *blank* (put in southern city or state) wear white at their wedding?

So the dish washer matches the refridgerator!

man, I kill myself.

We have some very poor college students paying for classes now, so we will be converting all campaigns around October 15th. The editing in 3.5 was awful, this is also helping the delay. I am happy about most spell changes. I will miss haste for my Sorcerer. Having been on the recieving end of it a few times thou, it was broken! Two horrid wiltings followed by two chain lightnings. Ouch!

I really like the class changes also. Bards go from near worthless to okay. Monk, Rangers, and Barbarians gain a lot to make them more worth while to 20. Fighters even gain with the new feats. I am not happy with a few of the new PrC classes, so those will not be availible in the one campaign I run.
