Why would/did you become a community supporter?

Been a member since I had the disposable income to do so. This is the best community experience in gaming. I'm happy to support it and will continue to do so.

I became a community supporter when I decided to run a play-by-post game on ENWorld.

I consider the money very well-spent.

Xath, don't take this the wrong way, because it's merely on observation in general, and has nothing to do with you, but it does raise an interesting point. You have nominated yourself to be an Ennies judge, and yet you aren't a community supporter?

Obviously there are no rules regarding such, but I can't help but wonder if maybe there should be some sort of post-count limit, and the requirement of a community supporter account before one can become an Ennies judge? It only seems reasonable to me.

Then you alienate alot of would-be judges. As a college student, my money has other immediate priorities. I'd love to support ENWorld, but it's something I'll have to plan out months in advance to be able to afford. I still think I'd offer valid opinions as a judge.

It may seem reasonable to you, but you have to understand that not everyone has the disposable income to have an account. Especially those of us that skew a bit younger than the average age here. Restricting judges based on the money they have to spend(even if it might seem like a small amount to you) seems extremely unfair if you ask me.

And I'll step out and say that the only reason I have a CS account is because of being a newshound. Sadly, I've been lazy for a while, but have been trying to pick up my news reporting so I don't feel so bad for having the benefits. I'm definitely one that doesn't have the money to spend otherwise.

I plan on buying a Community Supporter account once "Here Be Goblins" (which I co-wrote) is released (by Silverthorne Games), because if it weren't for ENworld I would never have written it.

No, no you don't - it is taken care off. As is my habit, I purchase CS accounts 1 every quarter (sometimes more) and have requested it in your name!

I wouldn't. Although it is irritating that vital board functions like search are not available to non-members I won't spend my $$ to get them. Running websites is expensive and EnWorld should be run as a business to cover those expenses.

For the amount of stuff I've used from here and the amount I've learnt about DMing, It's worth my while to help it keep going. The Search facility helps too.
