Wildshape clarification

Trust me to pick (at random) elemental and then BANG Elemental wildshape is that big big exception to the rule..

*sigh*

Speaking of elemental wildshape, does that allow:
(a) Any creature with the Elemental type, or
(b) Just the four "classic" elementals (optionally including para-elementals as well)?

I'm personally in camp B, but I'm kinda interested in what people think about it.

B) Air, Earth, Fire, or Water... sizes based on Druid level.

It says elemental, only. Which means, among other things, I think it includes Invisible Stalker.

It's possible they only meant the big four, but if so, they were imprecise as to whether they meant 'elemental type' or 'the things called elementals.'

As precise as D&D has become, there are still so many vague points. ;)

To be specific, it says...
At 16th level, a druid becomes able to use wild shape to change into a Small, Medium, or Large elemental (air, earth, fire, or water) once per day.
If you go to Elemental in the SRD... these 4 are what you get. An Invisible Stalker would be a house rule.

An invisible stalker is an Air Elemental.

Though I suppose one could say 'it doesn't say elemental type with these subtypes, it says air elemental.'

No... an Invisible Stalker is an "Invisible Stalker"... the second line in the monster section notes it as a large elemental type (air, extraplanar).

My point is that 'air elemental' could refer to an elemental type with air subtype.

But since it doesn't explicitly say that, I think one must assume that it means the critter called 'air elemental.'
