Will I still be able to enjoy ENWorld?

This may seem like a silly question, but by now I keep wondering if, once 4E is in full swing, there's much left for me to come here for, since it's not going to be the edition I'll be playing in the future. And the fact is that I really like coming to ENWorld, talking about D&D, about roleplaying, and simply discussing stuff with the regulars that I've grown to know for the last 5 years, even if you can see from my postcount that I haven't posted as much as most of those regulars. :)

So by now I wonder if I'll have to look on the Dragonsfoot 3E boards in a year or two to find those regulars that have stayed with 3E...actually, if ENWorld will simply turn into a "4E mostly" forum, and if I won't find a topic I can meaningfully participate in 12 months time.

I know that a lot of those worries most likely are unfounded...but seeing how rare the occasional "older edition" thread is, and how peppered with rules the current discussions can become, I fear there's enough reason for me to wonder if I'll stare at this forum in a year, see a lot of names I recognize but can't really discuss with anymore, and a lot of topics that don't really tell me anything either, except for the "standard" topics about roleplaying that pop up once a season anyway.

In a nutshell, I wonder if I'm going to lose one of the nicer things 3E has given me...an interesting and vibrant gaming community to talk with, discuss with, and share ideas with. :heh:

I ain't switchin' ... and I ain't leavin'! There'll be room for 3 and 3.5 and 4 around here for a good long time, I'm sure. It is looking like the magnitude of difference between the most recent editions isn't going to be all that big.

I'm sorry, but due to 4e product identity issues, ENWorld is no longer legal in your jurisdiction.

Please refer future posts to GLEEMAX(tm).

Thanks, -- N

Bah, players of all editions are welcome! We all have problems with the Drow, right?

That having been said, I think that 3.5 devotees who slag on 4.0 constantly will probably feel more isolated ... the trick as always is to focus on what people have in common, not what is different.

There are always threads and discussions that are relevant, no matter what edition you play. However, I do think that there will be a bit of an edition split here on the boards. I certainly think more people will stick with 3.xE than the amount of people that stuck with 2E.

Olaf the Stout

I agree with Olaf. I think more people are sticking with 3.x than stuck with 2e. But, eight years from now when 5E comes out I imagine that they'll be saying that more people will stay with 4E than ultimately stayed with 3.x.

My biggest fear is that with no new publishing happening, the rules froum will become all-but-useless to people who aren't playing 4E ... much like it is all-but-useless to people not playing 3.x. Sure, you are welcome, but have you ever watched how rapidly a thread about 2e game mechanics grows? I'd rather watch molasses run uphil while it is below the freezing point, honestly.

Having said that, I think there is always going to be enough to do in General for me to feel welcome. And there's always Meta!
