Will I still be able to enjoy ENWorld?

My biggest fear is that with no new publishing happening, the rules froum will become all-but-useless to people who aren't playing 4E ... much like it is all-but-useless to people not playing 3.x. Sure, you are welcome, but have you ever watched how rapidly a thread about 2e game mechanics grows? I'd rather watch molasses run uphil while it is below the freezing point, honestly.
The rules forum is one area I usually don't venture into, as it's all 3e-related and I'm not... :)

That said, why not open things up...have a 3e rules forum, a 4e rules forum, a 0-1-2e rules forum...hell, it's already happening in Reviews with all the classics going up in there...make this *the* D+D site (even more than it is already) rather than just *the* D+D 3e site.

::shrug:: Just a thought...

I'm sorry, but due to 4e product identity issues, ENWorld is no longer legal in your jurisdiction.

Please refer future posts to GLEEMAX(tm).

I actually have to wonder if that will be the case. If Merric is right about only allowing D&D fan material on Gleemax, that means several forums here, like the house rules, critter catalog, even possibly the story sections will be in violation of that. (Scoff if you want, but that same exact thing happened in the TSR era...)

(And actually, given the money problems of ENWorld, I can almost see WOTC buying it and shutting it down, in order to drive traffic to Gleemax)

I agree with Olaf. I think more people are sticking with 3.x than stuck with 2e. But, eight years from now when 5E comes out I imagine that they'll be saying that more people will stay with 4E than ultimately stayed with 3.x.

I don't know if it will be quite like that. 4.0 will be partly digital. You wont need the digital part, but its going to be heavily reinforced with digital content. When the edition changes to 5.0, the digital content will be 5.0, so 4.0 will be left up a creek with no good ogl to speak of and no real digital support.

thats why i think 3.5 will percervere.

4E is OGL, so they won't be able to limit our talk. If they do I have some "freedom of speech" lawyers to call.

Back in March/April I started making noise about ENWorld becoming more "all encompassing" of the other editions and C&C.

It was a very dissappointing experience for me.

Oh, whom are you kidding - you'll buy the new edition anyway. Admit it. :p

I know I will...

But buying it and playing it are two different things. I'll pick up the PHB, no doubt. Maybe the odd fluff book, if such a thing exists. But the cool thing about the OGL is that I have 3.5 material to last a very, very long time, and I've been stocking up for quite a while now, realizing impending doom was on its way....

The conversations will slowly but surely turn mainly to 4E. Those not going to 4E will not have a common base with most folks on the board eventually. Perhaps it will not happen immediately, or even this summer, but by this time next year 4E will dominate ENWorld.

And even if EnWorld turned into My Little Pony Forum, as long as there's an Off-Topic Forum, we can still have fun on the renamed EnWorld. :)

The difference is that this place was built on the back of 3E. No way it'll completely leave it behind.

Will 4e have alignment? Will it have Paladins? You can be sure of that! Hence you can be sure that everyone still has plenty of opportunity to keep posting on EnWorld, no matter what you play :D

Your fears are unfounded I think. Even now, as a predominantly 3e forum, there is plenty of non-D&D and older edition discussion that takes place (and in a far more civil manner than it does on many other forums, to boot). I don't play a lot of 3e because of my schedule. . . though I can still find people here who are willing to discuss Grim Tales, HERO System, Call of Cthulhu, and numerous d20 'light' systems (including my own). I think you're safe ;)
