Will I still be able to enjoy ENWorld?

Oh, whom are you kidding - you'll buy the new edition anyway. Admit it. :p

I know I will...

Actually...not kidding anyone. I'm simply not interested in it, and I'm not the kind of person who follows a new edition of a game just because it does the same stuff I can do with the current edition (or older editions, even) a little bit different. The way they got me into 3E a few years back was to give me the PHB for my birthday. :p

On the other hand...never say never and all that. Who knows, maybe next September somebody will think it funny to give me the 4E PHB for my birthday as well.

Your fears are unfounded I think. Even now, as a predominantly 3e forum, there is plenty of non-D&D and older edition discussion that takes place (and in a far more civil manner than it does on many other forums, to boot). I don't play a lot of 3e because of my schedule. . . though I can still find people here who are willing to discuss Grim Tales, HERO System, Call of Cthulhu, and numerous d20 'light' systems (including my own). I think you're safe ;)

Thanks, you actually managed to put some ponders to rest...I mean, I'm not THAT much of a 3E player either anymore, and I still get into enough discussions here to have fun. So I'll simply remain hopeful. :) Would be missing this here for sure.

Not that I'd buy 4E simply so I could remain active here, mind you. :p That would be a slap for the DI, huh? People buying 4E not for the digital content on WotC Online, but for being able to talk on ENWorld.

Hey, I've used 4e as excuse for coming back to ENWorld, so it seems your theory could work ;)

I ain't switchin' ... and I ain't leavin'! There'll be room for 3 and 3.5 and 4 around here for a good long time, I'm sure. It is looking like the magnitude of difference between the most recent editions isn't going to be all that big.
I'm very glas to hear this, as I'll be sticking with 3.0E for a while, at least until I'll be persuaded to shell out the cash and buy 4E.

(And actually, given the money problems of ENWorld, I can almost see WOTC buying it and shutting it down, in order to drive traffic to Gleemax)

This wouldn't shock me especially since the DI sounds like the key component of their new business model.

Just let us open ENworld to all editions of D&D and all D20 Stuff as it is now, was and will be.
Let us start the true EI (electronic initiative)

Honestly, there are so many 3.5 players out there, so many campaigns still in full swing a nd to come (Pathfinder anyone?) and so many prestige classes still to play, that I do not think 4ed will take over ENworld in the next year.

Anyway, as it stands I think most of the 4ed talk will be gleemaxed and dndinsidered so ENworld will have the 3x grognards and 4ed nonconformists.

Wow! Great to see you back, Horacio!

Rest assured that we'll be discussing what to do. However, these forums have always welcomed polite discussion of all games - don't look for that to change. Whether we deem it necessary to create separate forums for 4E, or if we reorganize in some other way, or leave things as they are, we'll do whatever make sense to keep the talk flowing.

Thanks for the comment, Eridanis. I'm happy to hear the ENWorld powers-that-be are already working on this.

I must say, I wish there wasn't this silly tendency for edition wars to break out, I would love to see ENWorld turn into a mingling ground for all editions of D&D. Personally, I'm taking inspiration from all editions of D&D, and I think that's more common than it looks on the conflict-prone internet. :)

I agree with Mr. Eric about stayin' (though I might change to 4E). These boards are too good to leave and older edition posters have always been treated squarely here.

I figure it will be like it is now. 4e will become the standard just as 3e is the standard now. You can still talk about and ask questions about 3e, but the assumption will be you are talking about 4e unless you say otherwise.

I think the board will also have a big resurgeance right before and at the beginning of 4e, as a major news front on the game as it develops, and all the new rules questions about it.
