D&D 4E Will it be possible to play 4e without clerics?

I've played plenty of 3e and 3.5 games without clerics. If anything, it looks even easier in 4e. But it's readily doable in 3e and/or 3.5 with just extremely minor tinkering already.

Clerics never were necessary. Potions easily take their place..at least they have in our games.

Really? Beyond 10th level, potions and wands just don't cut it. I'll agree you can do it at low levels, but, 2d8+4 hp's just isn't going to save your character when CR 12 critters start pumping out 100+ points of damage per round.

I've seen this claim several times, but, I really have to wonder how.

Meh. Potions of cure critical. Potion of heal. It can all replace the cleric :)
..but if your DM is FORCING you to have an extra hand each round (i.e. the cleric) by throwing massive damage attacks at you..that's what you get :)

But on a topic germane to this forum: I'll bet there's a lot of examples in Anime.

I knew it! Clerics are so anime!

On a more serious note, that first level playtest cleric didn't impress me much. It's not hard to imagine getting by without that guy.

Not according to the RAW. :\

From the SRD:

Brew Potion: You can create a potion of any 3rd-level or lower spell that you know and that targets one or more creatures.

Cure Critical: Brd 4, Clr 4, Drd 5, Healing 4

Heal: Clr 6, Drd 7, Healing 6

In my 3e experience it's been pretty hard getting by without a cleric at mid-high levels. :( A wand of cure light wounds works well out of combat, but if things go south in combat, you're in serious trouble.
