I might go see it, a friend of mine said that it is set on mars and there are space marines, which I thought was what they kept out of the movie? Can any one help me on this?

There are Space Marines. It is set on Mars. The Rock is not the main character.

On DVD, definitely. In the theaters, no.

Pluses: Has a good cast

Minuses: Probably the script

I've seen a movie shot entirely in the 1st person. From the 40s. Based one of Chandler's Marlowe novels. Not bad. And there was a short lived Fox detective show based on that premise, too. (Starring the guy from the Tracy Ullman show who didn't voice any of the Simpsons)

It's apparently gone through several scripts. Some of the early ones apparently were different, much annoyed Doom fans. But from what I understand, the final one involved marines on mars

I probably won't get a chance to catch it in the theater, but I'd like to. Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban in one movie is enough to make me show up.

That'd be Lady in the Lake. It was on some cable channel this past weekend, 'cause I saw bits of it. The first person thing was kind of distracting to me, but I didn't really get into it.

Actually, it's not. It's directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, who doesn't exactly have a reat filmography (Cradle 2 the Grave, anyone?), but has a pretty extensive(and moderately impressive) cinematographer credit list.
Ah, my mistake. I had heard Boll had gotten the job a long time ago, and the "in-game" scenes remind me of the crap he does.
