I have no idea if I will ever buy it, but currently I would say no. I just don't feel the excitement that I felt when 3e brought me back to playing D&D. The new edition doesn't look like it is being designed for me. There are a lot of things about what I have seen that do not impress me, so I will have to say no right now. Will that change? Maybe down the road, but not now.

Did anyone notice how 3.5 was released right after Hasbro bought WotC. I don't think that was a coincidence.

I personally suspect that 3.0 was released "undercooked" for business reasons (cash crunch, perhaps), and that 3.5 was more what was intended...and also for business reasons.

Goodness knows that some of the changes between the 2 editions were fo the better.

If it continues to morph into some other game, I probably won't. Already, I don't really consider 3E to be "D&D". If 4E is really just "generic fantasy game with unified core mechanic", well, I don't need it.

agreed. agreed. and agreed.

yep.

I'm sure I'll buy the PHB, so I can play in 4e games.

But any games I run will continue to be 3e. I have enough 3e stuff to last 2 lifetimes, and I like it just fine, thanks. Even if 4e doesn't turn out to be the overpowered, Eberroned silliness that it sounds like, I'll stick w/ 3e, because of the amount I've invested.

One of the guys in my group didn't buy 3Ed until after 3.5Ed had hit the shelves. He has only in the past year or so begun to buy 3.5Ed.

And most of the guys in my most active group only play 3Ed. 3.5 is still over their horizon.

I sent them an email about the 4Ed announcement...I haven't heard from them yet- I'm not expecting nice, grandma-friendly words.

Yeah, I still run 3.0. No way would my players have bought the 3.5 PHB. 4.0? They'd quit playing entirely if I tried to force them to buy a new edition.

And besides, 3.0 is working just fine for us. Why should we switch?

I voted for option 2, but I suspect I'm just fooling myself. I've always been a 'collector' of game stuff. I'll likely buy it UNLESS a quick read through makes me think otherwise.

Lord knows I've went through countless editions with other games.

Good Morning, All:

I know that I will be purchasing the core rules for 4E, simply because I am sure I will eventually play in someone's 4E game. Whether or not I choose to switch my own games over to 4E will depend entirely on my impression of the rules once I've read them.

With Regards,
Flynn

I will probably get the core books just to see how much they screw up D&D for me. That will probably end my WotC book buying in general. No biggie.

Ill stay with 3.5, I have stuff to last several years if need be.

It all depends really. I love third edition very much, WOTC really needs to do something to get me to buy into 4e. I'm about 80% sure I'll just be sticking with what I have.

I originally voted "I might buy it, after initial reviews," but as more information has come out, I'm definitely in the buy column. I intend to get both preview books this winter and Shadowfell in the spring and start running test games with my friends to see if we want to convert our ongoing (and nowhere near done) 3E games.
