Willing Polymorph

I'm sure this has been brought up before, so my apologies for not having purchased search (yet). :)

Polymorph requires a willing target, but unconscious characters are considered willing. Can you think of a reason for me not to houserule that that doesn't apply to polymorph? I don't like the idea of knocking out bad guys and then polymorphing them into pigs or whatever. I mean, it's funny, but it seems awfully cheesy. ;)

Edit: And the real reason this thread is in this forum: did I miss something in the rules that would not allow this tactic?

I can't see why this would not be allowed. Remember, polymorph works both ways. :)

Either make a "gentleperson's agreement" with your players (like those that have done so with disjunction), or house rule it out.

As opposed to, say, knocking them out and then killing them via CDGs?

Polymorph can at least be dispelled ...

Well, in this case it was a half-pyroclastic dragon troll. They polymorphed him into a chicken so that they could CDG him. They didn't have any acid-based weapons and not many spells left at that point. I thought it was intriguing, and funny, and thought I'd post it here to see if my gut-feeling on the cheesiness was wrong. :)

So, I should continue to allow it?

Yep.

Here it is:

Regeneration (Ex): A creature with this ability is difficult to kill. Damage dealt to the creature is treated as nonlethal damage. The creature automatically heals nonlethal damage at a fixed rate per round, as given in the entry. Certain attack forms, typically fire and acid, deal lethal damage to the creature, which doesn’t go away. The creature’s descriptive text describes the details. A regenerating creature that has been rendered unconscious through nonlethal damage can be killed with a coup de grace. The attack cannot be of a type that automatically converts to nonlethal damage.

<EDIT>Oh crap, how did I miss that last line? Arggggg......I DMed it wrong during session #34......and as you said, they had no acid weapons. Nevermind.

Regardless, I would still allow this. In most circustances, once your foe is unconscious he's at your mercy anyway. Polymorph might be considered merciful in some cases.

It's also a great way to transport prisoners. Knock him out, turn him into a chicken (or whatever) and stick him in a cage. Then just dispel it when you get him where you want to go.

I may have to do this to my PCs. :]

A stranger use for this is for raising your precious BBEGs as pets:

Polymorph Any Object them into something with an Int score of 2. Handle Animal.

That *troll* or whatever, doesn't lose its extraordinary abilities.. or special abilities..
So it still have regenaration... so if they're trying to avoid it... (too bad for them)
