Willow?

So far as I can tell, no RPG or setting materials based on “Willow” - the 1980’s movie and 2022 Disney+ series that was canceled after season 1.

I’m fond of Willow, so I wonder if I missed something?

The only book I know of is this:

I think it's based on AD&D, but is unlicensed by TSR.

I'm still waiting for a The Sword and the Sorcerer or The Barbarians role playing game. While I've never seen the series, I have decent memories of the movie even if I haven't seen in since 1990 or so. I don't remember any interest in Willow as an RPG property. It had pretty much zero impact for my group, but I acknowledge my experience can't be universal. I don't have any memory at all of The Willow Sourcebook @Deset Gled linked to. If I did see it, I would have assumed it was just a movie tie-in book which were fairly common for these kinds of movies in the 1980s. Though the description in the link does specifically mention the book included ideas for making your own Willow RPG.

The Sword and the Sorcerer might be an interesting exercise but really Willow and even the Barbarians are pretty much generic fantasy doable with standard DnD. Which I suspect is why we dont see fans clamouring to see a licenced Willow RPG.

That said I went and googled and apparently there is a Chronicles of Gor kickstarter so who knows what people are in to :)

I had the unique experience of reading the continuation fantasy series, Shadow Moon, Shadow Dawn and Shadow Star with no knowledge of the film. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I found them very confusing, but I have vaguely fond memories, which is apparently not the norm.

I don't think any further material was created there, but the setting felt very gameable to me.

I made the mistake of doing the same and clicking on the Indiegogo campaign for the Gor RPG.

Eesh. The designer of the game sounds like a real winner.

Yeah, other than changing the name of halflings, I think you're pretty much all set with stock 5E, using the Willow wiki as a campaign setting sourcebook.

There was a rule book in 1989, but it was cancelled after its first print run.

Whizbang's link is what I'd use to get started on the lore, and a serviceable, generic, fantasy RPG to back up the GM's decisions. Hmm... Fantasy AGE? I'd recommend against watching more than the first two Disney episodes of Willow for content. But I'd gladly watch to Boorman Show if Disney wants to splurge on another fantasy epic.

I've run an adventure set in the Willow universe, and as I recall there wasn't anything in the movie (and not even much in the novels) that wasn't adequately covered by a not-even-particularly-fuzzy interpretation of the 2nd Ed. AD&D rules.

That's available on the Internet Archive.

There was also a boardgame from the original movie.
